Interested in buying a good record player to play some vinyl records that have been gifted to me, mainly Shane Smith and the Saints. Anyone have a good recommendation or one they want to dispose of to a beginner "vinylist"??

Cheap on Amazon. I bought my wife one that looks like an old radio, with a CD player, AM/FM radio and a record player. She still has her Sammy Hagar and Scorpion records from high school. (Yes we are old.)

Do you have an amp/receiver? Speakers? If so, I consider the Fluance RT-80 a solid option, ~$200. I have an RT-83.

For easy, yeah you can do an all-in-one box like another poster said. Obviously you're not going to be able to upgrade any components for the most part and you may be unimpressed by the sound quality.

If you want a better option (IMO), you'll need a record player (like previously mentioned), a power source (maybe with a built in phono preamp) such as an AV receiver, and some speakers.

You can Google various setups.

Do this. U-turn makes some solid entry level turntables as well.

Don't go the Crosley all-in-one route. They sound terrible and can actually damage your records.

Where are you located?

Like another poster mentioned U-Turn does a decent job at entry level. Buy the one with built-in preamp and you can run it into your existing A/V receiver.

I have a Rega P1 from 2016 that I don't use and it's just sitting in a cabinet. I'm in Fort Worth. I'll have to look at what a fair price is if I can find anything.

For an entry level, that isn't a cheapo, can get a record player and speakers for $250 below:

I have this identical setup. Plenty happy with it. I'm no audiophile but it sounds great for the money.

Same. No audiophile, but it sounds good enough for my space. Here is my setup.

My Record Player: https://a.co/d/6Bjk558

I've had it for 6 or 7 years now and not a single issue. I have mine into a Yamaha MG live mixer and a Marshall Stanmore.

Between Amazon, Best Buy, Guitar Center, and Sweetwater, usually they will have a used one for a decent price.

Where are you located? I'm in Cypress and have recently merged 2 separate houses and now have redundant systems (AV receiver, turntable, speakers) that also need merging.

My opinion is that a cheap turntable will make your experience less enjoyable.

I started with an all-in-one out of ignorance. Records dragged, skipped, and were just not very good sounding.

I spent about $400 for an AudioTechnica brand and have had no issues. I've given the all-in-one to my daughter. She prefers to listen to her records on my player, too.

Do what you wish, my opinion is just my experience.

That is a very solid starter table. If I were the OP, I'd be trying to make a deal on that table.

I too have this one but in silver:

I would not get anything with built in speakers.

If you are going to ever:
- listen to 78s, get a 3-speed
- scratch like a 90s DJ, get a direct drive. Otherwise, stick with belt drive (less expensive)

If you do start collecting, you can go a long way with a mid-level turntable and a decent stylus.

Get one with Bluetooth output and connect it to a good Bluetooth speaker. New stereos have BT so that's one less set of wires to deal with.
I started out connecting mine to one of these:

As my collection grew, i upgraded to a system.

If you suspect any of your records could be worth something, check them on discogs before someone puts more scratches or dings on it.
