TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • With Terry Bussey‍, we still feel pretty good. Last we heard, Texas and LSU were trying to make late runs this week. You feel like A&M has had a good grasp on this recruitment, but you don't take things lightly. We felt he was close to announcing A&M's commitment at the pool party. He decides to wait and go see someplace. Now, it's a decision week, and we feel pretty good about where A&M is at. Jason Howell will be on the scene tomorrow in Timpson, in case he does pick Texas A&M. That is the biggest recruiting story going on right now.

  • The second biggest news would be what happened over the weekend inside Kyle Field with the visitor list.

  • A&M passed the first test. You have to pass these tests. Jordan Pride‍ was on an official visit. Cameron Coleman‍ was here for multiple days. Weston Davis‍ was here after he had been flirting with LSU and Texas. You got the guys on campus, including Caden Durham‍, a running back. That is a position where you have nobody committed. He is one of the top backs in the state committed to LSU.

  • One of my biggest takeaways outside of getting those guys to campus, Kyle Field still has its fastball. It still plays big time. It leaves an impression. All the kids we talked to made a comment about the atmosphere in Kyle Field for an 11 a.m. kick. They have so much to sell outside of the product. If the product can get right, it will only bolster what they are doing.

  • We are in year six under Jimbo Fisher. I am gutted for Conner Weigman. One of the more disappointing things outside of feeling really bad for him is that the rest of the country was just figuring out what we had already known. If Max Johnson can steer the ship, that will be another huge boost for them on the recruiting front. A&M lost an incredible talent at quarterback and then replaced him with a guy who kept A&M going in the right direction.

  • Coleman is supposed to be at Colorado this weekend. Everything we heard coming out of last weekend's visit to A&M was outstanding. I feel good about where they are at, and it was important they beat Auburn the way they did. They limited Auburn's offense. Coleman saw that. He liked A&M stretching the field. He envisions himself in a receiving corp with guys like Evan Stewart and Noah Thomas

  • Durham visiting A&M last week is big news. He is one of the best running backs in the state and in the country. You don't have a running back committed. You laid the groundwork this weekend to get him to come back for a future game. It would not surprise me to see him on the visitor list for A&M vs. Alabama. If you beat Arkansas, that Alabama list is going to be as good of a visitor list as Jimbo Fisher has had since he's been here.

  • When A&M is the home team at AT&T Stadium, it's not a big recruiting weekend. They will get a few Dallas kids in there. It's not your home atmosphere. You aren't showing them what your gameday has to offer.

  • With Bussey, it's very similar to the Dominick McKinley‍ recruitment, where you are asking around, and people say different things. We feel pretty good about what A&M has done and the relationships they built there.

Cares about our defense? And did our offense have more than one deep ball?

Yes. Maybe he's an actual smart recruit who wants to win championships.

As for the 2nd part, we have thrown for a lot of yards this year. Whether people want to admit it or not, Auburn has a good defense. In what many consider a "bad" game by our offense, we still put up 402 yards and 27 points against it.

Recruits like Cam tend to be smarter than Aggie message board fans. Or at the very least, have more perspective.
