If that's the aspect of the game that you enjoy, then you really should give Diplomacy a try.

Another vote for Diplomacy here. Risk plays better online, but Diplomacy blows it out of the water by removing the luck factor.

It completely depends on the game and number of players. Feudal war rarely lasts a long time. City Mogul assassin is done in a day or two. But on the other hand, I had a 4 player Circus Maximus go for nearly 5 months.
The key for faster games is find a group to play with and agree on "real-time" games. Or just go premium and don't worry about it.

All these slacker "New Recruits" give us guys with Question Marks next to our handles a bad name.

Concur with above...
Depending on number of players and the turn I have to choose countries, I go after Australia or South America. Problem with Australia is you are stuck in the corner. Conquering and holding Asia is difficult.
If you can conquer SA quickly, you have a leg up over others in the Africa and NA fight.
The real question is do you turn in your cards quickly OR do you hold onto them and let others build the army reward before turning your cards in.

I also let my subscription expire though I still play as superrufus99, mostly on the WWII, Iraq, and supermax maps with an occasional Siege or King of the Mountains.
It helps the game speed up if you freestyle. That way it's only 24 hrs/ turn for everyone instead of 24 hrs for fred to play, then 24 for Billy, then 24 for you, and so on.

With all due respect, why? CC has over 120 maps, 5.8MM games played and thousands of members. Dominate has one map.

They have tons of maps and you can make your own. Its free and its real time. So usually 45 seconds a move.

If you want some quick and dirty, Dice Wars is a Risk knockoff that plays on randomly generated maps.
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/dice_wars You can play a game in about 10 minutes.

For real time risk, the best I found for ease of use seems to be the Attack! app on facebook, but the options are very limited.
