This is a no-brainer

MCNEAL

Granted he didn't exactly take over the game against CU, but it definetly wasnt his fault we lost. When your defense gives up 21 points in the 1st quarter, you have a RS fish rb in place of C-Lew, and your Reciever fumbles a TD due to no contact, there are obviously other variables you can't control.

McGee was playing a 3rd string defense

McGee....At the least it would serve as a wake up call to Reggie

Give the kid a chance. Let Reggie rest his "hurt ankle" or scratched cornea or whatever.

Start McNeal. If he struggles give the next guy a chance.

McGee

But, give McNeal a few drives. I still think McNeal is the best option for us, but he's got to get it together somehow and we can't just let him drag the team down while hoping he suddenly does. It might just be that there's some attitudes that need adjusting.

Branyon has gotten lost in all of this, but he's pretty good too.

put the crackpipe down people

give reggie at least the 1st quarter....if he looks horrible, then put in mcgee

there is no reason to bench reggie to start the game.....(go back through our games and realize that it's always someone besides reggie that screws up our first drive)

like i say, if he cant get us going after a quarter, try mcgee.....if we bench reggie and start mcgee, it will be the most disgraceful sign of defeat and quit i will have ever seen in regards to a&m football

Wow, the delusion on this board is unbelievable. Mcgee leads a couple of drives against the Colorado scrubs with many of our starters still in the game and people now think he is Brett Farve. He is good and a has a lot of potential but if Mobley and Carter had caught the perfectly thrown balls from Mcneal, you people would be singing a different tune. Not to mention the coaches wait to put lane in until Mcgee is in the game.

Byron I don't think anyone here honestly thinks McGee is better than McNeal (yet) but I think we just want to see some change. Bring something new to the table just to shake things up. Maybe it serves as a wake up and get's Reggie fired up. Maybe it would throw off the other team enough to give us an advantage.

That's why I say: McGee

I am indecided on this one. We have not had a chance to see McGee play against an opponents' starters. If there ever was a week to pull Reggie out of the starting position, it would be this one, but I haven't given up on him yet. I would say Reggie, and if the play is poor, throw McGee in against their starters.

If we are gonna have a chance to do anything at all this year, someone has to light a fire under this team, and quick.....

Start the game with the entire 2nd team and let them play until one of them needs to be replaced...If they can win with the first team on the bench, great, see if the original starters can earn their spot back in the following weeks practice...

Here's an idea: start them both at the same time in a spread dual-outback formation. Either could receive a direct snap, and the other could act as the backfield pitch man who can still pass, or a receiver, and wouldn't that give the defenses something to worry about. Reggie could do what he does best - running (which if he is drafted to the NFL, he'll be doing instead of QB'ing) when we need a big break, and the duality of it makes for some really interesting screen pass play fakes if one qb is about to be sacked. Turn Reggie into a very pass-capable running back, and put Steven in there to throw the ball. Steven has a cool head on his shoulders, and that is far more important than being able to rocket a ball (which he can still do) or run (which he can still do). I think that wrinkle in a spread (Steven gets a snap, rolls out to the right and then gives a screen to Reggie if everyone is covered from his view or he's fixing to be sacked, and then Reggie could throw or run) would give us a huge advantage. It's time to get creative. I've been a big proponent of turning our defense around by bringing back Bob Davie and the 3-4 (which got my thread deleted *growls at mods*, although the 3-4 defense is theoretically superior, [don't have room to go back into that here]) and I'm also a big proponent of creative offense. It's time to try SOMETHING new.

lol why is everyone attacking me? I'm just giving constructive suggestions to a team that obviously needs some. All anyone does on these forums is bicker, and I think it'd be nice to actually contribute something constructive for once. It gets a bit tedious otherwise.

I don't think starting McNeal is a bad idea. And I'm fairly convinced that's what will happen. But as soon as he gets tense, throws bad passes into quadruple coverage, or just generally lets his discomfort turn into a wasted down, let McGee come in for a few snaps. It will do wonders for Reggie to collect himself, put his head back on and stand aside from the game, and it will give valuable PT to a QB who is clearly the future of this team -- especially considering the future should be a major consideration at this point.

That being said, I don't think Reggie is a bad QB. He's just a better thrower than he is a passer. Forcing him to the sidelines when he slips out of gear might help him stay in the game mentally.

McGee! We need to see what he will do against the 1st team of conference opponent. OSU being at home is the perfect opportunity to do this.

Give him the first half and if he can't get it done go back to Reggie in the second half.

We need to start showing what our underclassmen can do to potential recruits at the game. It is not too soon to start preparing for next year.

Reggie should start. Give him a quarter and a half. If he plays poorly, bench him and let McGee have his shot. If McGee does no worse than Reggie or better than Reggie, give McGee the starting job.

I'm sick of prima donnas. For the hundredth time, Reggie is not a leader. Freaking SR QB not elected to the ****ing leadership council! Unbelievable! Our team chemistry problems have everything to do with our starting QB. If he doesn't produce, bench him for the rest of the season, and let's focus on developing our QB of the future. NO SACRED COWS!

In fact, I'm almost wishing that Fran would give McGee the start so we can handle a good deal of this team chemistry issue from the beginning.

My brain says McGee, but my gut tells me you owe Reggie a quarter to try and get it figured out.

I guess I'll vote for McGee. That's what would make me FEEL the best about it.

Reggie had 2 perfect TD throws dropped or fumbled. Chad dropped 2 catchable balls and their where numerous shovel passes dropped.

I guess RM needs to learn to catch his own balls.

I like McGee, but he is no Reggie at this point.

McNeal gets the start but is on a short leash. If he's not moving the ball after a quarter, let's see what McGee can do. At this point, the Ags have to begin to work on the future.
This team, and McNeal in particular, haven't shown the heart to get it done. I don't see any emotion on the field other than frustration.

McGee looks to be a stronger runner than Reggie. McNeal goes down at the mere mention of contact. When someone gives a firm handshake, Reggie hits the turf.

I think Steamin Willie Beamen(Reggie) needs a break and get a chance to realize that the job that he thought was his by default could evaporate in front of him. A little competition might light a fire under his heisman @$$.

McNeal, but if he starts out slow I'd give McGee a drive or two while the game is still undecided.

McGee - to send a message to the entire team that piss-poor attitude and selfishness have no place on the field or in the locker room. Get the players out there that want to make a difference and have success as a "team", not as an individual. Get someone out there with heart, passion, fury and leadership who will make all around him better, not one who looks for excuses when things do not go right. Give him at least the 1st half to prove himself - and if he falters have Reggie in reserve.

If he does get into the game and changes the attitude on both sides of the ball, I can only imagine what this board will be like next week.
