If he gets the job it's less money we have to pay, but we could also lose some recruits if they are loyal to him for some unknown reason if he is close by.

If he needs any help packing bags, i will be there for him
Sounds like some of you have received a cash-call from Byrne on Fran's buyout. Hopefully Fran gets the SMU job and you guys don't have to come out of pocket.
I find it funny how people say he will do better at a smaller school when he beat some of the best teams and coaches while he was at Bama in the SEC. He can coach anywhere, he just didn't fit here at A&M and it seems he didn't keep coaching like he did at his other stops.
I was speaking with a current SMU football player Friday night and asked him how the search was going. He told me that they would know today who the new coach will be. I told him that there was quite a bit of talk about Fran and he said that he had been hearing that same name within the locker room and from folks affiliated with the program.
Can SMU hire Fran for $1 a year for the first three years. A&M has to make up the difference. Than SMU can give him bigger money in year 4 if it works out.
Fran would be a perfect fit. Not only would he make the Ponies competitive again, but he'd also be able to bring the soon-to-be-former A&M staff (less Van Malone) along with him --- if they want to go with him.
I wish Fran nothing but the best. Despite the disappointing overall record, he put together a team that beat the hell out of tu the last two seasons and came damned close to doing it in tu's MNC season in 2005.
Fran left a far better incoming situation for Mike Sherman than he had (or thought he had) five years ago.
Fran can recruit well enough to make SMU a competitor in that conference, in spite of his uber-conservative play calling. Landing in the Metroplex is probably the best deal for him, and saves us $$.
I'm not worried about recruiting against him, because really, how many good players are going to choose SMU over us without Bill Clements footing the bill?
I think Fran would do well at SMU; simply because of his strong texas ties he would be able to recruit better there than any coach has since they got the death penalty. Fran would find sleepers for that program.
I posted this two weeks ago, even said what his flight times to dallas were and staff decided to erase it. because you can make stuff up but if you have actual info then they will bust you down sucker!
