1) Talk of academics

2) Pimping your endowment


Honestly guys, we don't give a rats ass about academics or your completely non-sports related 200 trillion dollar endowment.

I want you in the SEC, and so does everyone else down south, so don't take this as a flame.


There is certainly a time and a place to boast of academics. It's not as if we blow it off all together.

But you are potentially about to join a conference where using academics as a way to compensate for poor on the field performance will quickly have you blown off as excuse making losers.

We're a conference that roots for each other out-of-conference, chants SEC, hates each other for a few hours each Saturday and drink beer together Sun-Fri.

But seriously, drop the academic talk. You're going to find that no one in the SEC gives a rats ass.

I'm guessing that Florida, Georgia and Vanderbilt disagree w/ you. The only ones who don't boast about academics are those that can't.

Can we still talk shat about our Meat Judging, Polo & Archery teams?

No, Florida and Georgia do not get on message boards and discuss academics.

Vandy doesn't get on message boards.

Disagree if you want, but you'll see soon enough that no one cares.

While our academics are brag-able, I fully intend to watch my Ags BTHO your piggies.

This is what scares me the most. We are about to lower ourselves academically so we can be in the sexy SEC. Of course, maybe academics no longer matter.

We'll need to get our **** together in football really quickly, that's for sure.

That post is the only reason why I dont want us to join the SEC.

If a school has a great academic side, it's simply icing on the cake, but rarely discussed.

Again, not a flame. We want A&M, but no one cares about academics. It's just the cold hard truth.

In terms of sports talk between fans, he (Woo) is absolutely correct. Academic smack as an excuse for Football/Other shortcomings is an invitation for mass ridicule. We can talk Sports. We can talk academics. But we don't mix the two on Saturdays.

Academics will stand alone school by school. It's a stupid argument against joining the SEC. Yes we are superior in that regard. Sure, talk about it later and shove in their face if you want. But for now, lets get IN first before we start talking sh*t.

Big time college athletics is all about performance on the field and the balance sheet. Anyone who says otherwise is a hypocrite. The group of gangstas in Austin weren't signed by Mack Brown for their academic prowess.

I married an Ag though and know how much pride you take in academics. I'm not knocking it either. You guys should be proud of your academic side.

But in the SEC "x" amount of wins is "x" amount of wins. If you try to boast in the SEC that you have "X wins, and/but great academics!", well, no one will care.

This will be a big adjustment for many around College Station. If you care to use academics, in any way, as a form of smack talk, well, you should go to the Pac-10. We-don't-care.

I think he's being misunderstood. Everyone in the conference cares about academics. Individually. It just isnt like you get on message boards and talk about how my chemistry department can kick your chemistry departments ass. No one is saying a&m has to lower their academics to join the SEC, so i agree, who cares? be harvard of texas, fine, congrats, but on a sports message board in the sec, people care about talking football, not GPAs. It isn't like you are going to lose research money or students "SEC, well they're all dumbasses, we'll give our money to texas tech instead." doubtful.

This is the real academic argument against the SEC. There won't be any direct effects on the academics, but the indirect effect is from reinforcing a culture that thinks the icing is the cake.

our goal should be to boast academics and athletics, we should be able to stand just as strongly in either category.

This thread is a monument to every reason why the Aggies should not hissy off like a miffed gf to get gang-banged in the SEC.


I don't get the inferiority complex. Texas A&M is overall a better University than tu.

Aggies have a Vet School, growing Health Science Center, huge agriculture and animal science programs, almost double the R&D funding. Texas A&M has more National Merit Scholars matriculate. Texas A&M is a one of the great science and engineering Universities in the US. Aggies are the leaders. Horns follow.


You want athletics AND academics?

Big Ten.

the problem with the sec isnt the academics of the normal student, there are some good schools in the sec, but they do have lower requirements for student athletes

the OP's point is, after A&M loses to Alabama or LSU occasionally, don't go to their boards and say, yeah well, our academics kick yours under the table!! We can do that to tceh because they don't understand anyway.

And this is the **** that the SEC doesn't care about.

Individually, each school can/should boast of such things.

But if you think academic smack talk means a damn thing in the SEC, you should head to the Big 10 or Pac 10.

It's a cut-throat league. Academics are not discussed outside of each individual University. SEC school "A" doesn't give a flying **** about the academics at SEC school "B".

It's great if you have great academics, but hardly something that gets you points in SEC circles. NO-ONE-CARES.

We're not asking you to join the National Honor Society.....

The SEC is an athletic entity....if you want to sit around and jerk each other off about how high your average ACT score is for incoming freshmen then you probably should continue to be TU's beotch and do what they tell you to do, and join the PAC10-16....

If you want to play in the king of all athletic conferences, on national TV, in front of the most rabid fans in the country, and make $20,000,000 a year doing it....join the SEC....

The only time I ever read about academics and athletics in the same posts is when discussing conference realignment because academics do matter somewhat, though it is hard for anyone to really quantify. You don't have to worry about us losing on Saturday and coming to your board and saying, "Who cares who won the football game, we have more national merit scholars!" We haven't done that in the Big 12 where we are one of the premier academic schools and we won't do it in the SEC either.

you should say no one cares about academics on SATURDAY......

Don't worry hogs/tigers/tides, we will save the conversation about academics for when it matters- when we are trying to steal your recuits.

Or do you think the parents of recuits won't care that they can go to a school with better academics?

bringing up academics is loser talk. I would sacrifice every foreign exchange student making a 4.0 in A&M's engineering department for a championship.

Your school, and the rest of the SEC, should figure out how to boost your academics and endowments.

Don't worry about us- we're focusing on BOTH our academics and athletics.
