A regional accrediting organization has put Texas Tech on probation.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools says it took action after Tech failed to show that its curriculum met college-level competencies.
The association issued the probation during an annual meeting Tuesday in New Orleans.
Tech spokeswoman Margaret Lutherer says the school put a program in place last year to make those assessments. She says the probation was issued simply because Tech didn't have the results ready in time for the association's meeting. Lutherer says the school expects to have the results ready by end of the spring semester.
Tech is accredited by more than 25 agencies in a variety of academic programs. A loss of accreditation could prevent a school from participating in federal financial-aid programs.
