So to pass the time until the season starts I'm going to do a write up on each of the big 12 teams from #12 to #1. But for a little added fun instead of just me ranking them let's have everyone on the site throw in a ranking. 12 weeks until our first game of the season is next Friday so you've got about a week to do some research before your final rankings are due. Just post them on this thread, I'll compile the data and then countdown a team in the Big 12 each week from #12 to #1 using our TexAgs Basketball Board Genius Ranking System. Remember this is a ranking of all Big 12 teams, not a national ranking (maybe I'll do that later.)

i like to do two rankings:

1st is how I think the standings will end up

#1 Kansas - Only playing the south once makes them almost a lock for Big 12 Champs

#2 Texas - The fish they are bringing in will more than make up for Derrick Roland's ***** and Conner "I forgot how to shoot" Atchley

#3 Kansas St. - This years Missouri...losing Darren Kent and adding Wally Judge

#4 Texas A&M - Not as confident with losing Elonu, but I think still strong enough and deep enough to get a bye for 1st round of Big 12 Tourney, but I wouldn't be shocked to finish in bottom half either

#5 Missouri - Same system but I think they really will miss Demarre Carrol. North schedule still leaves them in top half.

#6 Oklahoma - Goodbye to the HGH brothers. Time for Willie Warren to shine. In order to compete for 2nd Gallon is going to have to be amazing and I just don't see it his freshmen year. When does Crocker graduate? I feel like he’s been there for years.

#7 Baylor – They are the biggest wildcard in my opinion. I really think they’ll be a better team without Jerrels, Dugat, and Rogers. They may actually be able to run sets and looks like a basketball team and not the Globetrotters. I hope Jefferson and Anthony Jones eat at Heitmillers all offseason because a Gallon fart could knock both down to the hardwood.

#8 Nebraska – A bunch of Juco’s, a German shooter, and the ugliest coach in the NCAA equals atough team that is always a hard out. I will miss watching Dagunduro and Cookie play.

#9 Oklahoma State - How does a team with so much talent always reserve a spot for a horrible player. Tyler Hatch began the tradition and Sidorakis continues it. Ray Penn and Keiton Page will have a midget wrestling match to start Midnight Madness. Between Page, Moses, Anderson, and Muenoelo they'll scrap themselves to wins. A MUCH better team than their ranking, but someone has to lose in the south. If Roger Franklin and Karron Johnson can help Moses they could end up top 4 easily, but again someone has to lose in the south.

#10 Iowa St. Brackins and Colvin. Colvin and Brackins. Nothing else to see here.

#11 Colorado - Just not enough talent in the front court. Tomlinson, Thorne, and Higgins will give everyone fits. But who is going to get them points in the paint? Dufault? Veal? I don't think so.

#12 Texas Tech - Is it weird that I think they'll be better, but still finish last? The south is just too brutal. PJ Tucker is still dribbling and Singletary is still draining shots in OKC.

2nd: How good I think the teams are:
1. KU
2. tu
3. A&M
4. OU
5. Baylor
6. OSU
7. KState
8. Mizzo
9. Tech
10. NU
11. ISU
12. CU

I forgot to mention that this poll is meant to reflect the predictions of the whole board, not just Aggies. So Bears, Horns, and whoever else, rank away.

My primary rooting interest is Baylor, but I have family who are Ags and I root for them.

I think you all are overrating them. Where are the points going to come from? Without Carter and Elonu there could be some ugly offensive nights. You know how streaky Sloan can be...

I think UT/KU are 1-2

TT, Neb, Col are the bottom

After that it will be a dogfight. A&M could finish 3rd if every single thing went right. And they could finish 9th and still have a decent NIT team.

But for no one on here to pick them lower than 5th is certainly on the overly optimistic side based on the strength of the conference

I don't see A&M being any good this year without Carter and Elonu. Elonu going pro was a gigantic loss and I am not a big fan of their recruiting class. Who is going to score? Davis is an 8 ppg guy, Sloan is an 8-10 ppg guy that cant shoot, Roland cant score to save his life.. Unless something surprises me, A&M will struggle.

please tell this guy he is an idiot. Davis averaged 11 and Sloan 12 last season and there were apparently better options (Carter and Elonu) on the team... tech above us is a joke ISU?
at least that capelfan guy has some clue. I will bet anyone any amount of money that A&M does not finish bottom 4 in the league.

Notes:
I think freshmen will have a considerable (positive) impact for: Kansas, Texas, and Kansas State.
Freshmen usage at Missouri, OU, OSU & Nebraska will ultimately lead to their lower rankings.
Baylor & Nebraska were interchangeable IMO.
Kansas State ranked highly because I believe Missouri & Nebraska will be much weaker this year, boosting their conference records.
Still not quite sure what to think of A&M and OSU at this point. Both could be great, but could also crash and burn.

Hulla/Ryno- I am a Baylor fan. I am not bitter about anything. And I don't understand the Baptism comment. But here is my rationale for the Ags projected in 9th place.

1. I think the Ags have a lot of talent and can finish anywhere from 3-9. For me, it was difficult to pick 3-9 because I think any of those teams could finish 3 and any of those teams could finish 9th.

2. I like the Ags- coaching and talent wise. But the Big 12 is tough next year. I think the Ags have weaknesses down low now that Elonu is out of the picture. Davis is a scrapper and crafty but his athleticism is not great. He will struggle with double teams. Loubeau could be great and obviously A&M will finish better than 9th if he does become great, but it is a large question mark. It would be like me counting on Anthony Jones at Baylor next year. He might be great, but there is no history there to let me know I can count on him...

3. Ags have 3 proven scorers and a lot of promise. Davis is very efficient and will probably average close to 15 ppg. Sloan and Holmes can score but they shot less than 40% from the field last year with Carter drawing the toughest defensive assignment. This year defenses will key on Sloan and Holmes and I am not sure that those 40% shooting percentages are going to improve.

4. Loubeau shows promise. Roland might surprise offensively a little. Dash Harris shot horribly last year. One of the freshmen will have to step up. But let's be serious, only top 30 in the nation types really make a big impact as freshmen in this conference and only Kansas, Kansas St (Judge), UT and OU signed those types this year.

5. If I had to rank over I would probably put the Ags at 8th ahead of Iowa State. I think Gilstrap- junior college 6'6" -will take a lot of pressure off Brackins and allow them to sneak some wins in the North. I think the Aggies are a better team but I am not sure they will have a better record due to the brutal nature of the South.

You usually need 3 guys to win games offensively and I think A&M has the weakest 3 of the teams I ranked 3-9:

3. KSU (Clemente, Pullen, Judge)
4. OU (Gallon, Crocker, Warren)
5. Baylor (Carter, Dunn, Udoh)
6. Mizzou (Tiller, English, Taylor)
7. OSU (Anderson, Moses, Munuelo)
8. Iowa St (Brackins, Gilstrap, Garrett)
9. A&M (Davis, Sloan, Holmes)

A&M, Baylor, OU, KSU, and OSU all have very talented freshmen classes. It will probably come down to which class steps up the most as to how the teams are ranked. But in pre-season, I think you have to go with what is proven.

Most importantly, the schedule is not favorable for A&M. You want the tougher teams in the North at home. Ags have to go to KSU, Missouri and Iowa State. That is a tough draw since it might not matter where anyone plays Kansas next year.

That is my logic for better or worse...
