How long do you want to ignore this user?
First, I come in peace. No flaming from me, and not trying to tell you your business or start a fight. I've been reading your board for a while, and see a few other SEC and Hog fans from time to time, and thought some of you might like a bit of outside perspective. I grew up during the later SWC days, and remember many games with you and Texas. In the interest of full disclosure, I can't say I like you guys, but I don't hate you either. Texas........ well the p-$$horns can wallow in their own B$ as far as I care. Yeap, hate'em. Always have, always will, bought the t-shirt. If you don't want my perspective, that is fine, please say so, and I will leave you in peace.

With all that said, I want you guys, and only your guys from the Big 12 in the SEC. Now this is not altruistic, but beneficial to all. You see I believe that if you join the SEC, then you, Arkansas, LSU, and to an extent the Mississippi schools benefit and the SEC as a whole. In addition I believe it hurts Texas, OU, and OSU. So why do I think this.

First for A&M. Personally I think Tx wants you to go with them to the PAC 10 for a number of reason. 1. Money. Pac 10 has unequal revenue sharing much as the Big 12 does, so that allows them one more school to continue to steal from. 2. It helps them deliver the Tx TV market to the PAC 10. Both of you have a big influence in Tx TV. 3. For Tx to get P10 invite worthwhile with the potential for the weaker teams in the south division, then P10 needs ALL that market, and hence both of you. If you go SEC, then their position is weakened, and they don't have nearly as much clout in the P10. 4. Recruiting. By going SEC you develop your own identity in the eyes of recruits in the currently dominate conference. This will land more elite recruits for A&M and less for Texas/OU/OSU(More on this later). 5. Travels costs, and schedule. They don't want to spend the money, and they want a weaker A&M along with other weaker teams to fluff up their record. Helps keep the egos up, and the $$$ flowing. Besides you guys are on every corner, and you start claiming titles, they won't be able to get away from it ringing in their ears, and that would just be awful (depending upon your POV of course).

So how does the SEC, Arkansas etc. benefit from A&M being in the SEC. 1. TV. Many millions more eyes in Tx that will want to see SEC football. That brings a bigger contract, which brings more money. That money gets shared EQUALLY by ALL members. Which helps everyone including my HAWGS. 2. Recruiting. By having more exposure, more recruits will pass up the travel of the Pac-Pan whatever and play for a independent A&M, Arkansas, LSU. That puts a much bigger SEC presence in one of the few other big recruiting grounds that the SEC doesn't already have (Cali would be the biggest remaining currently). That helps my Pigs ALLOT. LSU some, but that would mean some very significant La talent would have to be passed over to take Tx kids, leaving it the best of it for A&M, Arkansas, and Mississippi schools, that is if A&M/Ark just plain don't start taking the best La talent from them (LSU). All the while this takes talent from Tx/OU/OSU and I can dance in my living room as I HATE those guys. 3. Arkansas gets an old rival back, and that helps our support , which makes more $$$, and I get to flip Tx the bird (Ok, I already do that, but it's the thought that counts).

So how is this good for A&M. 1. Money, since a likely reneg TV contract would be much fatter due to adding Tx TV (along with at least one other team), that brings a bigger pot of ALL the share EQUALLY. 2. You help yourselves become better. You remake your own brand, yourselves, which helps in donations, facilities upgrades (you will be wanting to do those too BTW), recruiting, and general happiness. 3. You know that if you win a division/conference Championship, that you EARNED it. You may beat the better team on one weekend, but your not going to beat the better team 4 weeks in a row. So if you win out, you will know you are good. There won't be any doubt. 4. You get to show Texas fans where that particularly hairy spot they can kiss is located. I LOVE that Arkansas did that. Yea, we don't play them much anymore, but right now I doubt that really want much of us anyway. You won't miss them much. They are poison. Kinda like being a a drug, you don't think you can live without it until it's gone, and then you see how it really was, and you happy it's gone. They killed the SWC, and they are finishing off the Big 12, and the Pac-Pan whatever will be next.

Some will claim cheating, and any number of other things, but look at the real numbers, and you will see it just doesn't quit hold up. All major programs have skeletons, just some are worse than others (OOOOOOOOO-UUUUUUUUUUU). Come to the SEC, you'll love it here. I don't regret a day leaving the SWC. Never have, never will.

All this is just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth (basically nothing), maybe just something for thought.

Lastly, I don't know who the SEC will add (I think other conference expansions will force it), but I think they will have to, and A&M looks like the best candidate in the west. Good fit all the way around IMHO.

I hope A&M gets an invite from the SEC and we take it. I am tired of all the people in Austin thinking the world evolves around them. IMO it would be better for A&M to split off if what you are saying is tue.

I for one appreciated the effort....people spend HOURS on here and they can't spend 5 mins reading a cool point of view?? Anyway...

Thx for the write-up. I'm still trying to figure out where is best for A&M. I think the SEC is easily the best conference in football...but I don't know that I want to get beat up week in and week out. If we can join the SEC and tu does NOT, then I am definitely more interested.

The P10 seems VERY interesting to me because I feel like we can compete immediately...and I think we can recruit well in the P10 too...

Being still up in the air, I'm trying to figure out which I think is best case scenario, so I apprecaite your input...

And JJH, listen, it's not all wine and roses playing in the SEC. It is tough. In the end, you have to win wherever you are and competing with and beating the best is incredible (when it happens). There is nothing like it, and I'm a 1971 baby...I enjoyed 16-17 years watching/remembering the SWC mind you. Join and you will immediately understand why we all SEC! SEC! SEC!

5 SEC teams got to do this in the Regionals today and yesterday. To a fanbase, all 5 congratulated the others in moving on to Supers. We may hate each other on Saturday but it gets pretty close when we all succeed together. Just the way it is. Maybe TAMU will do that soon... Hell, do it tomorrow to send a message if you beat the U.

jjh0511,
SEC basketball kinda blows right now, but pretty much all other sports (male or female) the SEC schools are major contenders. As far as being beat up, probable at first. I know Arkansas sure wasn't ready for what we faced, but very few Hog fans regret it just the same. Plus that was one of the points of my post. By separating yourselves, you help your recruiting, and then it's coaching, and you have a better shot at climbing the latter. You will get better, and you will be tough to contend with, but it will help my Hawgs in the process. But I certainly understand your concern.

Its not just football.

We also have the best baseball fans in the country, and best baseball stadiums/atmospheres as well. You'd fit right in, and you'd love it. Its all out war, but I'd never want to see Arkansas leave the SEC.

Somewhat reasonable. But the criticism of our facilities is retarded. Sorry. Arkansas likes to brag about their facilities and they aren't as good as ours...

I didn't critize your facilities (I know very little about them), but when you have success, you tend to want to build things. Seems half of the SEC is in some state of upgrading at all times. Arkansas is looking to add a football operations center, basketball practice facility, finish bowling in Razorback Stadium, upgrades to Baum Stadium (baseball). Baum stadium is considered the best collage baseball stadium, and there are plans afoot for upgrades. That's just the way it works.

Alabama don'[t want you cause it makes their life tougher, and they know it. Sleeping giant, LSU, Arkansas all benefit much more than they like. They can act all wanna be cryhorn's at times.

Lastly, I expect some tantrumhorns on here throwing names, and critizing.... oh well, they rectalhorns after all.

Please always remember that the SEC is being "Thoughtful and Strategic" through all of this. We really don't have to do anything but there are talks going on. We just have to wait and see who is going to fire the first shot. Right now there is nothing but rumors. LSU and Arkansas don't want A&M but NEED A&M. According to one report the legislature will not be a problem if A&M go to the SEC and UT goes to the Pac whatever.

Some of the posts that I have read on this board are weird. I never thought I would read that a Aggie would go to a weaker conference just because the SEC is too tough. To those who say that "GROW SOME MELONS" Where is that Aggie Fighting Spirit. Man has UT made you guys a bunch of wimps or what. Yeah its gonna be tough but to get tough over time you gotta take your lumps. In the end you will be better for it and be compensated as well $$$$$$.

Warpig I agree with everything you said.

Prime example right here. Even though you say that you are tired of everything revolving around t.u, this shows how everything IS about t.u. The only reason you want to go to the SEC is to show mean ol Texas. What about the interest of Texas A&M? Na we just want to go to the SEC to piss off t.u. We will show them. Then we proceed so sucking in the SEC and guess what? All the hippie liberals in ATX will be laughing their asses off

Emphatically hell no. But there are a bunch of younger Ags who post on here who have never experienced A&M football success.

During my time at A&M (85-90), the Ags were 3-3 against the Pigs which is the worst record I saw against any SWC opponent. They were 5-1 against the sips, Bears and Cougar High, 4-2 against the Red Raiders, and undefeated against Rice, TCU and SMU. The Ags then went nuts in the 90s and won even more than they won while I was there.

Since joining the Big 12, the Ags have had 2 worthwhile seasons, both in the late 90s, and only once in '06 have any younger Ags come close to experiencing greatness on the football field. So I'm thinking a lot of the opinions to join the so-called easier Pac 16 are driven by this notion.

I for one would much rather play in the SEC than the Pac 16, as I can guarantee I'll never make a road trip to Arizona, Washington, Oregon or California but it's more likely I'd end up in Arkansas, Tiger Stadium or even Mississippi or Alabama.

The only drawback to the SEC is increased competition. It's only a drawback if you don't view it as a challenge to be met. I say "raise yo game up", and go into the SEC guns blazing. We can compete VERY well in basketball (mens & womens). We can compete very well in track & field. We can compete pretty well in baseball, and I'd rather our softball team take on the SEC than UCLA, Washington, and Arizona. Women's soccer will do great.

Football will have it rough with LSU, Arky, Miss, MSU, Bama, Auburn, and whoever else gets added (unless they move Vandy to the West). But, like I said, let's rise to the challenge instead of shying away from it.

No offense but the SWC was an abortion of a conference. As you mentioned we have only had two good seasons in the Big 12 (98 when we won it, and in 06 where we derailed towards the end of the season). What on earth makes you think that we will be good in the SEC?

Texas A&M needs to goto the SEC - alone. It's better for us and it's better for the State.

The Pac10 plays uninspired boring football. I have been to Pac-10 games and the fan enthusiasm is like cold coffee compared to the Big12 and SEC football game day atmosphere. There is very little electricity on the west coast and unfilled stadiums is more the norm.

The conference games would almost always be a sellout in the SEC. The Pac10 fans won't travel. There would be more demand for Kyle Field tickets from Ole Miss or Miss St than Baylor or OSU. Just look how many fans came to Olsen when they played in the NCAAs.

None of these reasons have anything to do with the other Texas university.
