First, I come in peace. No flaming from me, and not trying to tell you your business or start a fight. I've been reading your board for a while, and see a few other SEC and Hog fans from time to time, and thought some of you might like a bit of outside perspective. I grew up during the later SWC days, and remember many games with you and Texas. In the interest of full disclosure, I can't say I like you guys, but I don't hate you either. Texas........ well the p-$$horns can wallow in their own B$ as far as I care. Yeap, hate'em. Always have, always will, bought the t-shirt. If you don't want my perspective, that is fine, please say so, and I will leave you in peace.
With all that said, I want you guys, and only your guys from the Big 12 in the SEC. Now this is not altruistic, but beneficial to all. You see I believe that if you join the SEC, then you, Arkansas, LSU, and to an extent the Mississippi schools benefit and the SEC as a whole. In addition I believe it hurts Texas, OU, and OSU. So why do I think this.
First for A&M. Personally I think Tx wants you to go with them to the PAC 10 for a number of reason. 1. Money. Pac 10 has unequal revenue sharing much as the Big 12 does, so that allows them one more school to continue to steal from. 2. It helps them deliver the Tx TV market to the PAC 10. Both of you have a big influence in Tx TV. 3. For Tx to get P10 invite worthwhile with the potential for the weaker teams in the south division, then P10 needs ALL that market, and hence both of you. If you go SEC, then their position is weakened, and they don't have nearly as much clout in the P10. 4. Recruiting. By going SEC you develop your own identity in the eyes of recruits in the currently dominate conference. This will land more elite recruits for A&M and less for Texas/OU/OSU(More on this later). 5. Travels costs, and schedule. They don't want to spend the money, and they want a weaker A&M along with other weaker teams to fluff up their record. Helps keep the egos up, and the $$$ flowing. Besides you guys are on every corner, and you start claiming titles, they won't be able to get away from it ringing in their ears, and that would just be awful (depending upon your POV of course).
So how does the SEC, Arkansas etc. benefit from A&M being in the SEC. 1. TV. Many millions more eyes in Tx that will want to see SEC football. That brings a bigger contract, which brings more money. That money gets shared EQUALLY by ALL members. Which helps everyone including my HAWGS. 2. Recruiting. By having more exposure, more recruits will pass up the travel of the Pac-Pan whatever and play for a independent A&M, Arkansas, LSU. That puts a much bigger SEC presence in one of the few other big recruiting grounds that the SEC doesn't already have (Cali would be the biggest remaining currently). That helps my Pigs ALLOT. LSU some, but that would mean some very significant La talent would have to be passed over to take Tx kids, leaving it the best of it for A&M, Arkansas, and Mississippi schools, that is if A&M/Ark just plain don't start taking the best La talent from them (LSU). All the while this takes talent from Tx/OU/OSU and I can dance in my living room as I HATE those guys. 3. Arkansas gets an old rival back, and that helps our support , which makes more $$$, and I get to flip Tx the bird (Ok, I already do that, but it's the thought that counts).
So how is this good for A&M. 1. Money, since a likely reneg TV contract would be much fatter due to adding Tx TV (along with at least one other team), that brings a bigger pot of ALL the share EQUALLY. 2. You help yourselves become better. You remake your own brand, yourselves, which helps in donations, facilities upgrades (you will be wanting to do those too BTW), recruiting, and general happiness. 3. You know that if you win a division/conference Championship, that you EARNED it. You may beat the better team on one weekend, but your not going to beat the better team 4 weeks in a row. So if you win out, you will know you are good. There won't be any doubt. 4. You get to show Texas fans where that particularly hairy spot they can kiss is located. I LOVE that Arkansas did that. Yea, we don't play them much anymore, but right now I doubt that really want much of us anyway. You won't miss them much. They are poison. Kinda like being a a drug, you don't think you can live without it until it's gone, and then you see how it really was, and you happy it's gone. They killed the SWC, and they are finishing off the Big 12, and the Pac-Pan whatever will be next.
Some will claim cheating, and any number of other things, but look at the real numbers, and you will see it just doesn't quit hold up. All major programs have skeletons, just some are worse than others (OOOOOOOOO-UUUUUUUUUUU). Come to the SEC, you'll love it here. I don't regret a day leaving the SWC. Never have, never will.
All this is just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth (basically nothing), maybe just something for thought.
Lastly, I don't know who the SEC will add (I think other conference expansions will force it), but I think they will have to, and A&M looks like the best candidate in the west. Good fit all the way around IMHO.
