ummm apparently I am too young to know what ya'll are talking about - can someone please explain.

wink - the guy in the photo above (the aforementioned Hood), pulled his saber on an SMU fan and impaled him. The fan survived but hood was drummed out of the Corps and school.

Just out of curiosity, those of you that defend Hood, would it have been OK if he was in street clothes and pulled out a switchblade or is it only OK becuase he was in uniform, part of which happened to be a sabre?

Just an extremely poor lapse in judgment that has been repeatedly thrown in our face for the subsequent 20+ years.

regur - totally psycho. He spent the next 5 years in a mental institution where he he stabbed 5 different patients with forks. He supposedly still has the sword he used on the SMU fan mounted above his fireplace. You can still see the blood smear on it as well.

Very odd duck that one...

1) Hood was assaulted. The SMU "cheerleader" (a male) pushed Hood to the ground before Hood got up and drew his saber. Anyone has the right to defend themselves.

2) The switchblade would have to be of the pocket comb variety. Those sabers could barely cut butter.


In concealed handgun courses, the point is made that the weapon can be drawn any time the permit holder feels that they are at risk of "serious bodily injury", which could be as simple as another man clenching his fist and saying he's going to punch you.

Pulling out a "weapon" far more modest than a loaded handgun after someone has already attacked you seems pretty tame in comparison, doesn't it?

That SMU "cheer boy" probably deserved it -- our male cheerleaders are *****ier than freshman girls during rush... after they got cut from their top-choice.

When they tell that story at SMU orientation, people laugh -- b/c why is a male CHEERLEADER trying to act tough... embarassing. I mean, drawing a sabre is ridiculous-- but both parties were clearly insane. Our side for thinking it was cool to be a male cheerleader, and y'alls for drawing a weapon and putting into action what probably the entire SMU student body wanted to be done...

Who said anything about Sex? I made no mention of hiding in closets and under racks during fire drills in the middle of the night on weekends. Besides that wasn't dumbass, it was hazards of the trade.

So, what you are saying then is that Hood felt threatened, therefore he was justified in what he did, and it would be justified if it were a saber, handgun, switchblade, etc... am I reading you correctly?
