This is officially my last week of my collegiate volleyball career. I’m definitely sad to see it end, but I have enjoyed the ride.
So last week I told you the team was going to Tyler to play Austin College and U.T. Tyler and it proved to be another fun and memorable road trip with the girls. We drove out on Friday evening, ate at Fazoli’s (oh the breadsticks…lovely) and hung out at the hotel. Kaedy (Hermes), Joël (Russell) and (Sara) Keithley decided to sit in the hot tub for awhile. Meanwhile, the rest of the girls and I sat around with them chatting. Out of nowhere, Kaedy decides to jet from the hot tub and cannonball into the pool. Keithley and Joël follow her and they start a cannonball escapade. Kaedy then got bored with that and started doing her Baywatch impersonations. Have I mentioned how much I love this girl? The entire time I am recording this with a video camera from my video production class. I have to make a short 3-5 minute video for my class and I decided to make a video about the life of a student-athlete.
After the hot tub the whole team hung out together in one room watching Erin Brockovich and doing the whole girl bonding thing: doing each other’s nails, plucking each other’s eyebrows, and eating junk food. The next day the games didn’t go so well, but I have to mention how proud I am of the team especially Kaedy and Jackie (Gerard). Jessica (Holland), our setter, sprained her ankle at our last home game and had to sit out all weekend and Kaedy stepped up at setter and played well. I know she must have been exhausted after those 2 games, but she gave her all to get to every block and every set. Jackie stepped up as well, stepping up and playing front row for the first time in her volleyball career. She set the block well for her middle blocker and even came home with 3 kills.
On the way home we ate at one of my favorite restaurants, T.G.I. Friday’s!!! I was in heaven for a quick minute. The Sesame Jack Chicken Strips were divine, but the Brownie Obsession was complete perfection. I’m drooling all over again!
I also must mention the space ship the girls had to cruise in. Kaedy, Jackie, Keithley, Joël, and Coach (April) Birdsong drove a Nissan Quest up to Tyler. The girls kept joking about how it reminded them of a space ship because of the way the gears were in the middle of the dashboard-it was unlike any other car we’ve ever seen.
Yesterday was our last home game. Before we started our warm-up we took a team picture with the famous CUA mascots, the tornado and his 2 sidekicks. They were awesome! Before the game started, Coach surprised Joël and I each with a volleyball signed by the entire team. I love it! Kaedy, oh Kaedy, she started writing a letter to me on Joël’s ball wondering the whole time why my ball had Joël’s name on it. It wasn’t until after the end of her letter she realized it was actually Joël’s ball so she scribbled out the letter.
Good times, good times.
Well I’m going to end this quick so I don’t get emotional about this being my last week of volleyball and my last volleyball season. So…

What this group accomplished for 2005 is nothing short of awesome. The dream continues.
