and a majority of us think it is a horrible idea. How about making our opinion known at the Tech game in a T-shirt or sticker campaign?

I'd be willing to inject capital into the campaign if someone wants to run with it. I'm sure certain local businesses would sponsor the initiative too.

Thoughts?

Do you really think it matters to him what the majority thinks?

Poindexter, I was thinking about that too...sadly. I think it may give him pause from a PR perspective if there is an overwehlming response. If you are going to compare him to a CEO of a major company, any CEO knows not to piss off your customer base.

Beyond the plain, "Keep it at Kyle" slogan. Any suggestions?

There is only one way to stop this deal from happening. And in all honesty, it actually has to happen first before we can really do something about it.

If it goes through, just do the simple thing...don't buy tickets to the game. I know this is not easy as many Dallas based Ags are going to take advantage of seeing the Aggies play close to home. But if you want to make a statment, this is the only way.

If it is a "Pocket Book" move, then make the damage here.

Old Army- I kind of agree with you. I do believe Gates looks at more than the cash benefit analysis. I don't think he'd let Byrne do something if there was a clear and unequivocal objection from the fan base.

I'm all for the game being moved. And, yep, I live in the metroplex. If the game is moved to Dallas Ags in metroplex will go, students will go, and so will Former Students from all across the state. College football is about publicity and $. 2 things we could use more of.

With few exceptions (Bowl games, longstanding historical games like RRS) COLLEGE football should be played on COLLEGE campuses.

The customer base will remain.
They may get angry, but will remain.
It's the BIG DOG$ you dare not PO.
So if the "CEO" doesn't know your name, wife's name, kids' names, pets' names, and your mailing address and phone #s, forget about it.

The thought of never having to set foot again in miserable Lubbock, Texas makes it worthwhile to me!

I guess moving the game to Dallas is one way of breaking the so-called Lubbuck curse.

Lord only knows, I thought we would have done it ourselves by now.

Guys, this has been debated so much I'm honestly sick of seeing it. We know there are a few people....from my best guess 20% who live in Dallas, like this idea, don't like going to Tech, bla, bla, bla. Go to one of the 100 threads debating the issue and there are sound reasons not to move the game.

This thread is more for those 80% who really think this is a HORRIBLE idea to voice their opinion at the Tech game. Bantering back and forth on TexAgs doesn't do anything.

I agree.
But trying to stop the debate is like trying to stop the wind from blowing.
Gotta admit, if I lived in Dallas I would want the game played there every year like I wanted the LSU series played at Rice Stadium every year back in the 80's.
PS: It woulda been, but the Rice Admin was so PO'ed that LSU axed them to play A&M every year, they impulsively acted and refused to lease their stadium for the series.
A move, of course, they greatly regretted once they cooled off.

I have been and still am in favor of moving the game to Dallas.... the positives are greater than the negative for moving this game.

Positives:

NEVER having to go to LUBBOCK again
Recruiting help for the metroplex
We will beat Tech more than we do now
MONEY

Negative:

We lose a Kyle Field game every other year

Okay... I finally have the guts to say it... My name is Speck, and I'm in favor of moving the Tech game to Dallas.

I would never feel comfortable attending a Lubbock game with my wife, and I think the change needs to be made before another incident occurs.

Plus, there are big advantages to playing an IN-STATE rival in Dallas. When t.u. plays Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout, they give OU a recruiting boost IN OUR STATE! If we played LSU we would be doing the same thing.

We want a Dallas game for recruitment, and I believe an in-state opponent brings the most advantage with the least disadvantage.

(Of course... we have to win those games...)

From another thread.

quote:

1. It conveys the message to the rest of the country and recruits that Tech is our arch rival. I mean, we'll be playing this game in the shadow of the Red River Shootout. It gives Tech credibility and makes us look like little brother to OU and Texas.

2. It WILL NOT help us beat Tech. Period.

3. Like someone said, playing home and home is part of college football. The thought of Tech not having to play us in Kyle and experience that makes me angry.

4. The players hate the idea.

quote:

1. OU and tu are considered on a par, largely because of the RR shootout. Do you want to cement the idea that tceh is our natural equal?

2. Dallas has been done and done well. Holding an "also appearing" game there appears derivative. It helps cement the second tier, little brother, me too image we endure.

3. Home games, especially at Kyle, are a large part of the magic of college football. Drunken carousing in Dallas is a poor substitute for Midnight Yell at Kyle, marching in with the band, yell practice following dunking the yell leaders in the Fish Pond, showing the campus to guests brought for the game and drunken carousing on the Northside.

4. I really don't care about helping the Dallas economy, but I like the idea of taking care of the folks who take care of the students.

5. Football season is big to students, and their participation in the games is more important than making Dallas alums happy. Conversely, students are a larger reason for our success at Kyle than Dallas Ags will ever be in Dallas. We give up a significant advantage.

I don't buy the recruiting argument. Just win baby and all those Dallas recruits will follow us.

Also, we look like cowards if we back away from kicking Tech's rear in Lubbock. Back in my day, we beat them and the trip was uneventful.

Could someone please link or ttt the MANY threads on this? The ones I am citing are on the M&W board. My search function doesn't work.

In case you havent noticed DCag... we are not "back in the day" anymore. Tech (in football) is at least our equal.. if not better. Sad as it might sound (and it is sad) thats just the way it is.

Let's be honest with ourselves...they've been kicking our ass the past 5 or 6 years. They are very much a better team. 15-=20 years ago is ancient history in college football.

So should we try to get the Army game moved back to West Point?

How about this idea: In support of keeping the tech game as is, let's sell out every home game this year. Let's show how important home games are to us. If it's money they're after, let's give it to them by filling up Kyle.

That's why Byrne is no CEO. His ego will allow him to rationalize anything, I wouldn't waste the time with a campaign. You're just supposed to sit back and like it. Send him a message that he's great and he'll probably give you a phone call and then you can give him your thoughts.

I would rather play a big game in Houston and not be in the shawdow or OU/tu in Dallas.

About Tech whether we like it or not they have been as good if not better the last few years, but they are not on par with us as an all time program.
Squads_Right_II
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There are some very good points to moving the game. It's basically a bowl game with BCS type money for the two teams involved. In the long run that really really heps the program.

As for elevating Tech stature,... I think they've done that already. They are no longer our whipping boy and haven't been for the beter part of the last decade.

I do hate for them to miss out on the experience of Kyle though.

I would love to see the game in Dallas. I live in the metroplex and the area exposure would be great.
Would not have to make that stinkin' trip to Lubbock anymore. That alone is worth moving the game to Dallas.
The game would sell out easily.

Send $3 million dollars a year. Or better yet, send $40 million dollars a year so we will have a budget equal to our #1 competitor. Or send $80 million dollars a year, so Byrne will enjoy the same advantage over Deloss Dodds as Dodds enjoys today.
gopitt

football fan--then why does Tech beat our butt practically every year with a budget well under A&M's?
Or Baylor beating us in Waco. I don't see a huge revenue stream in Waco these days.
We don't lose to tu because of money. It's because their guy on the sidelines is far superior to our guy on the sidelines.

Give Us Room

Don't be ridiculous. Honestly, how many people are going to cancel their tix, or just plain refuse to go to any more games if we do this? If significant numbers did that, maybe your argument about him being 'no CEO' might hold water. Some won't like it (I am one of them), but if it puts more $$ in the till and at least does no harm, BB will be judged as doing his job succesfully on this decision.

There's a few hot heads that will be alienated by any decision. Even though many won't agree with this, them being upset or at the least disagreeing won't affect us negatively in terms of overall health of the program.

OU and the whorns are considered on par because both are two of the top 5 winningest programs in college football history, not because they play every year in Dallas.

Except one of the five winningest programs in college football history has to cheat to achieve that status.

83,

I think pissing off your base hurts in many ways. How many TMF holder get those capital campaign packets and groan in disgust? The less goodwill between the average fan and the admin, the less money is coming their way. Many loyal fans are locked into buying seats every year. Not going would be like ripping out their hearts, but you do not squeeze extra cash out of the masses by pissing them off.

Also, the absence of the Tech game from the average student's experience, will further dilute their experience reducing the degree with which they are "hooked" on aggie ball and willing to fork over their hard earned money when out in the working world.
