I know this is late. But UNT beat Ark St last night 83-75. I was out celebrating last night with some UNT fans! We are so excited! We may be in the same region as A&M. I have been wondering the same thing Aggie_Eric. I want to know why they no longer call themselves the Eagles even though they still have an Eagle as a part of their logo.

Pretty much like that for any sport there.......... very apathetic student body...... I think there were a total of about 50 UNT fans at the game last night (and I'm being generous)..........

They discussed this on the Ticket this morning. George Dunham (UNT alum) who also does radio play-by-play for UNT football and basketball said the official name is now Mean Green. They used to be the Eagles too and are sometimes still referred to as the Eagles, but officially they are the Mean Green.....

I'm enrolled at UNT right now too. It's kind of a funny school in the sense that most of the students there are UT/A&M/OU/Tech sports fans and have no problem flaunting it. I'm an A&M former student but still feel uncomfortable wearing friggin A&M gear on the UNT campus. I guess it's just a respect thing for me. I sure as hell wouldn't wear UNT gear in Aggieland.

It should tell you something that I know 7 minutes after the fact that Fran high fived an intern after a new recruit verballed, and at the same time didn't know UNT had a shot at the Big Dance until I overheard someone else casually mention it yesterday afternoon.

Correction: MOST of them are liberal arts majors or music majors and don't even know what the Big Dance is. Of the remaining people, their sports allegiences lie elsewhere. Besides, everyone in DFW is busy following the Mavericks.

Most UNT students are busy playing their musical instruments or getting high...........

I think I may be the ultimate basketball good luck charm. My first year at A&M was Coach G's first year, and now my first semester at UNT the Mean Green are going to the big dance for the first time in 19 years! Of course, I had no clue until yesterday afternoon when I came home from class and one of my roomates mentioned to me that they were playing in the championship game last night.

UNT is a HUGE commute school. The student body is not very spirited like it is in Aggieland. I've experienced both and A&M wipes them out. UNT is known for their art and music, so that is why no one cares about the sports. I went out to a sports bar last night in Denton and there were quite a few fans there which surprised me.

The mascot is Scrappy the Eagle. But we are called Mean Green....from Mean Joe Green of course.

There is a group on facebook already called "Greet the Champs." So at least there are some students excited about the Dance.

I'm just happy they got in!!
