they are both very strong defensivley, very strong

TT has beaten national champions and gone undefeated in the SEC

TT's record against top 5 nationally ranked teams is 6-0. incredible!

Fran doesn't fit here like, John Mackovich didn't fit at TU

Does it mean that those two aren't good coaches, NO, they just weren't able to fit into the program. Plain and Simple

You could make the argument. Although Tommy T. at least won a BCS bowl game.

However, it is interesting that Tommy T. has managed only two 10+ win seasons at Auburn, yet has churned out a TON of NFL quality talent. In 90's we had a lot of NFL talent, but didn't have much to show for it in terms of "getting over the hump" with Slocum.

Tommy T. is mildly better than Slocum. I would be disappointed if that's who we went with.

I think you could make that arguement. TT is a former DC, he has a similar approach to managing his program, he's familiar with what makes A&M tick and he's a good 'ole boy.

But then again, I don't know sheet.

The similarities are:

Both coached for A&M
Both Defensive minded coaches
Low key demeanor

One thing to recognize with Tuberville, is that he has competed and succeded at a high level in the toughest football conference in the country. He can recruit well. He would be a great fit here.

Once again, Tommy T. is better than Slocum...but not by much. I don't see him being one of Byrne's top choices, but I could be wrong.

everyone forgets that RC did have some great co-ords. and coaches thru the yrs. and had a hard time holding on to a bunch of them (as they were constantly lured away with better money...some were run off though...like Toledo).

I'd give both of piag94's nutz for TT's record at Auburn over the Fran era here at Aggieland in the same timeframe.

Fran had one good year in his last year at TCU and at Alabama. Most of wins were at schools like pittsburgh state or texas state before the new mexico job.

Thats one thing i really never understood about the hiring of him, he was a risk anyways

TorcanoAG2004, those were just his Top 10 wins. He won quite a few big games in the 172 contests he coached on his way toward becoming the winningest in Aggie history. All those early LSU victories come to mind.

LSU was a great team with a great coach in those days. amazing they didn't run the table after we beat them.

Ask Arizona if John Mackovic was a good coach that just didn't fit the Texas program... I think they'd have a much different opinion.

I hope Tommy T = RC... helluva upgrade from what we have now.
Kentatm
How long do you want to ignore this user?
you people ripping RC right now fail to realize he would be an upgrade over what we have now.

you guys also fail to realize that coaches considered all time greats Tom Osborne and Bobby Bowden didn't win it all, couldn't win the big games and couldn't seal the deal until late into their careers.

Osborne and Bowden heard the crap lobbed at RC for 15-20 years BEFORE they won titles at FSU and NU.

If we can get as coach like TT that can keep us consistently winning 9-10 games a year in the Big 12 and challenging for conference titles YOU KEEP HIM AS LONG AS YOU CAN.

uh, no. Slim can't seem to find RC's bowl record. That's ok Slim. At least RC didn't lose any bowl games his last 4 years. Mainly because he didn't get into any. (except the prestigous Independence Bowl which he also didn't win BTW).

Whenever someone mentions RC, Slim pops up like clockwork. LOL

uhh, they went to bowl games in 3 of his last 4 years and they won the one against TCU when Byron Jones picked off 3 passes.

in fact, just guessing that the only seasons he didn't get to a bowl game were the two 6-6 years and the one probation year.

agcatter,
The only year in the end we didn't go to a bowl game was when we were 6-6, fired R.C. and chose not to go to a bowl game.

Haha Yes, I forgot about the Gallery Furniture Bowl. Damn, how could I have possibly forgotten that one.

And his bowl record was what again?
Kentatm
How long do you want to ignore this user?
oh, and I believe his bowl record was 3-8.

N0t great, but also they only really got crushed in two of them and were right in it for the others.

Really even in the blowout losses they didn't play all that bad. They didn't come in looking completely unprepared and just happy to be there like we've had in the 2 bowls of Frans 4 years.

you said A&M had not got to a bowl in RCs last 4 years. Thats completely FALSE (w/one being the schools choice). Either you don't know what you are talking about or you lied. Which is it?
agcatter
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hey, don't put me on the defend Fran side of things. They both shared about the same characteristics - namely owned by TT and couldn't recruit against Texas.

RC was admittedly awsome against Baylor, Rice, TCU, and post death penalty SMU.

Perhaps he forgot about frans last 2 bowls..

38-7
45-10

or the year before that where we didnt go to a bowl.... 4-8 teams dont get to go to bowl games...LOL
