So with LSU being pushed around do recruits take notice? There are some highly prized recruiting battles going on between LSU and the Ags for the likes of Craig Loston and Christian Michael. With the Bayou Bengals looking down after thier MNC and the Ags tempting offer of starting right away and displaying your talent against the nation's best QB's (Loston), will it be enough to snag a couple difference makers at the deadline? Remember Sherm's ability to land some big names late last year? Here's to hoping at least!

I doubt it mainly because they are still going to a bowl game and its too early since winning the MNC...plus Miles can point to Perriloux

I don't think it hurts us with Michael. How much does it help? Who knows...

I bet it isn't hurting other people's chances with Loston but I guess LSU can point to that defense of their's and try to tell the guy he can come in and play sooner rather than later.

I don't think we're realistically "in it" on Loston, but you got to keep after him until he signs nevertheless.

i've heard rumors in the past week that LSU has pulled away their offer to Christian

We just got beat down by Baylor. You may want to rethink about LSU getting pushed around and put it into context when comparing to our program.

Electric, LSU's struggles don't hurt us. That was the question, I believe.

Our losing to Baylor hurts us. But, the question was about LSU.

I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up...seems like it could only help, though I'm not sure how much.

Players have obviously been attracted to LSU as of late due to their success. If it looks like they're on the way down, I'm sure Les will try to sell it as an opportunity, but hopefully it'll get some kids scratching their heads. I agree, though; comparatively, it's absurd to say that in lieu of LSU losing a couple of games this season, 4-8 A&M just looks tremendous

ya-- would you rather play for a program whos down year is 4-8 or 8-4? we need to get out of the bigXII south cellar-- then we can concentrate on the LSUs around the nation.....

Just a little perspective...LSU has lost to Georgia, Alabama (#1 ranked team in overtime), Ole Miss (who beat Florida in the Swamp), and Florida.

Their starting quarterback was kicked off the team before fall camp. I think you are seeing more of a Florida '07 situation with LSU rather than a fall of their program.

In no way am I saying that our poor performance this year is helping our case in recruiting. Or am I trying to compare our definition of a bad season to LSU. I am simply asking if the fact that this subpar season, by LSU's standards, is an advantage for us in the head-to-head recruiting battles for some top notch talent. Personally I think it helps our case in recruiting that they slipped a little this year. How much it helps, if at all, I don't know. There's probably not a way to measure this. But its a simple fact that the 2 closest schools to Houston area kids are A&M and LSU and if they have a down year it can only help to sway these guys West of Houston rather than East. With that being said if we take care of business on the field next year none of it will matter.

Miles is not Saban an recuits are seeing that.

Saban is going to come in and clean LSU's clock in recruiting. This is the beginning of the end for Miles. The Ags may benefit here and there for a guy or two from Texas looking at LSU.

It is somewhat ironic that a kid worrying about LSU's struggles would want to come to A&M.

Saban has signed only one player LSU offered since he has been at Alabama and that was Luther Davis, who lied to his high school coach and Les Miles.

Miles pulled his ship because of the lie.

Saban is trying to get Randle or Bell and Jackson. Had Muschamp left Texas, Jackson father was being offered a spot on Saban's staff, to fill an ast. coaches place that would have come open; but that all fell through.

So far Saban is 1-12 head to head vs LSU in state and that is L. Davis which means it is really 0-12.

Bama does not have a Qb on the level of Wilson and will be very weak on offense next season. Their offense is not burning the woods down this year. Bama's defense has won them 5 very close games.

LSU is looking to Sheppard to be one of its top 2 at Qb going into next season. LSu only loses Bryd and 2 OL on offense and 3 dl and 1 s on defense.

What leads you to believe their D won't be as good?

So you're going to depend on a true fresh and a redshirt fresh to help you at the qb position? yeah, you go ahead and do that.

What about that stellar defense you've fielded this year? How much will that improve?
tigger1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No were did I say Bama's defense was not going to be good, I look for their defense to be better.

But their defense will likely have to stay on the field longer next season.

Did you watch the Arkansas game? LSU's qb will be better next season, not great but better.

LSU only problem this season was Lee throwing into double and triple coverage, which lead to 7 interceptions returned for TD's and 1 short field fg and that is the difference in the Georgia and Alabama game.

Lee's two interceptions for tds and one short field fg was the difference in the Georgia game.

And his 4 interceptions vs Bama killed any chance of a LSU win.

The question is this with Lee, has his confidence been blown?

Jordan Jefferson was 9/21 143 6.8 2 0 vs Arkansas. Which is better stats than any game Lee played in all season except the Auburn game and no interceptions.

I seriously doubt it. They win their bowl game and they're 8-5. That's not bad at all considering the mess Miles had to deal with at QB.

Miles will prove he's no Saban. I think that LSU levels off around a 9-3 or 10-2 team consistently, and is a top 15 program in the country. However, that is a noticeable step down from where they have been over the past few years. I am really not impressed with Miles as a coach. I see him get outcoached repeatedly, yet is able to win many games on the sheer talent advantage that his teams possess.

This will help A&M recruiting in the Houston area and east Texas. Don't get me wrong, LSU will still pose a legitimate and real threat for recruits, but I just don't foresee them having the same type of success in Texas (i.e. maybe instead of getting 5-6 top recruits in Texas each year they only get 3-4). Even if we are able to land an additional 1-2 difference makers or even just solid football players, that will have a major impact to our program.

I'm not sure what games you were watching. Sure, the quarterback situation wasn't good for LSU. But why should that make the defense look so bad? Stafford, Tebow, Wilson, Snead, and Troy's QB all looked great against LSU. Even Arkansas's QB looked pretty good. The defense looked lost and out of position. You can't blame that on a young quarterback.

They also lost to a 5-7 Arkansas team. And it's not just the fact that they lost those games that you mentioned. They looked HORRIBLE in those games. Those games that you mentioned weren't even competitive (except for the Bama game). LSU wasn't even close to being good enough on either side of the ball.

And outside of those games, they needed a comeback of the ages to beat Troy at home, and struggled against a bad Auburn team.

If that was the only problem, why is there going to be such a turnover of the defensive staff?

Miles may suck as a coach, but he's shown he can recruit on the level of Saban. Rivals and ESPN currently have LSU in the top 3 classes in the country...

I have nothing against the Aggies, but before you start talking trash about LSU and their ability to recruit, head on over to Rivals and see who has the #1 recruiting class in the nation? Oh yeah, its LSU, and should remain so throughout the rest of this recruiting cycle. We had a poor season, sure, but we've also won 3 SEC championships in 7 years, 2 national championships in the past 5 years, won 10 games or more 5 of the last 8 years, and are 10-2 in our last 12 bowl games. There aren't too many recruits who are going to turn their nose up at a chance to play for this team just because of one bad season.......especially since we are bringing in, arguably, one of the best freshmen classes, full of ridiculous talent, leadership, and character, in all of college football.

Secondly, there is almost no chance that you will pull Loston. He's already pretty much a silent commit to LSU. Shepard is his cousin and has been in his ear this entire year. Ever since he decommitted from Clemson, he's been all LSU. Everyone close to him, including his coach and his family, have stated that he is going to LSU.

Also, you are more than welcome to C. Michael. We didn't want him, so there was never any battle over his services. Unfortunately for him, the schools that he wanted to go to don't seem to want him. Except for aTm and Nebraska, no one seems to have given him an offer. I'm sure he'll do well for ya'll, but there must be some reason that he spent all season waiting for LSU to give him a committable offer. He spent this entire year claiming that all of these high profile schools were interested in him, but he only has committable offers from aTm and Nebraska. It seems the high profile teams are seeing something, or aren't seeing something, that is holding them back.

LSU is likely to finish up this class with between six and eight 5 star recruits, thirteen and sixteen 4 star guys, and a couple of 3 stars. Assuming that we get Debose and Randle, which is likely, we'll have the highest point rated recruiting class in history. Seems to me that Les is doing a pretty darn good job recruiting, but if aTm is pulling in classes that are just as talented, then I wish you all the best. Maybe some recruits will want to go there instead of LSU.

So, while you certainly may have some valid points about our season being poor ( of course, to keep things in perspective, it wasn't nearly as bad as yours ), we really have nothing to worry about. We're already in the hunt for a top notch DC, and like Florida last year, our entire team is mostly made up of Soph. and RS Freshmen. Every team has rebuilding years. Ours happened to be worse since we lost 3 All American Defensive starters, a likely All-SEC QB, two 1st Rnd Draft WR's, and our Defensive Coordinator. Its odd that you think it is a negative that we might "level out" as a 10-2 or 9-3 team every year. That would likely include several SEC championships each decade, and possibly a NC or two. When is the last time aTm won a conference championship? Aggie fans would be having multiple orgasms with a season that you're making fun of LSU for.

Anyway, I actually pull for the Aggies because my dad played ball there for a year before he moved to another Big-12 school. I just have to defend my personal alma mater when it has criticism being heaped on it by another team's fans.

Best of luck to you guys!

Jester: I don't see how anyone could say that LSU is struggling. Granted you didn't win as you did the year before; but you have a fine school. I worked through the years with your Agronomic Dept. They were all class folks who had nothing bad to say about the Ags. We are a trifle down now. Throughout my years in support of the finest school in the country; My Ags have their ups and downs but we unfailingly continue to offer a quality education. Hopefully both will do well in football through the years.

Hold up! How many top rated classes have you had in the past 5 years? And those top rated classes got you a fantastic season this year, right?

quote:
a likely All-SEC QB

so he was or he was not an all-sec qb???? what does this likely word mean?

two 1st Rnd Draft WR's

you had one player drafted in the first round last year. where did you get this idea that you had two first rounders go last year?

quote:

and like Florida last year, our entire team is mostly made up of Soph. and RS Freshmen.

you are losing your starting fullback, starting and backup center, starting left guard, starting wr, starting RDE, starting and backup LDE, one DT, starting MLB, starting FS, and kicker.

Did you post more than 2 facts in this post?

And for the record, we said the same things about A&M in our heyday. It can come crashing down.

LSU is short on remaining ships and RB isn't a real need position.

LSU has these back at rb:
Charles Scout (who may go pro)
Keiland Williams
Richard Murphy
Trindon Holliday
add recruits:
Dexter Pratt
Michael Ford

With only likely only 5 spots left and LSU the favorite to get 4 others there is a major debate on that last spot. LSU is talking about greg shirting 2, which may allow two other spots.

Tiger Stadium is a dump. Crappy 70's architecture, crappy fans half of which look like they just got out of prison. All contained in overcrowded, polluted, crime ridden Baton Rouge. You'd have to be nuts if you live in Texas to want to go there over A&M.
