Wow he was alive in the age of Middle Earth, up through Titanic and WWII also. He died three times at least but lived until 2024.

Sad to hear. Reading the books as a kid, my 2 favorite characters were always Theoden and Boromir, and when the movies where announced, that's who I most fervently wanted them to get right. Of course, he and Sean Bean were both out of this world.

Was always disappointed Bernard Hill didn't get an Oscar nom for The Two Towers. He's great in both films, but dazzling in that one.

WARNING: I have a deep-seated desire for others to love the Star Wars franchise as much as I do, in exactly the way I do, and get snippy and sensitive and passive-aggressive when they don't.

He really was excellent at that part. And it's a difficult part. A lot of emotional range. Being under Saruman's spell, the loss of his son, having to get tough with Aragorn about strategy, and then having to tell Aragorn that the courage of his men hangs by a thread, and to later feel all is lost and then ride out for a last stand.

Great character and he really brought him to life.

Side note: the CGI youthening of Theoden when Gandalf breaks Saruman's spell still holds up well all these years later.
