Most of my favorites like Pulse and At Budakan have been mentioned, but no one's said S&M yet so I'll through that in there. S&M 2 was good, but not as good

I nominate these

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Pack Up the Plantation Live

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Live at the Fillmore 1997

Their Anthology Live set is incredible but I don't consider it a Live album as it is culled from many shows over the years.

but it has one of my favorite live tracks of all time - their cover of Mystic Eyes by Van Morrison

And for good measure I'll throw in Van Morrsion -It's Too Late to Stop Now

I think this is poll worthy.

We had 91 live albums mentioned on 4 pages which I collated. I added these from the Rolling Stones list of top 50 live albums:

The Replacements, - The **** Hits the Fans
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Motörhead - No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Arc-Weld
Phish - New Year's Eve 1995 Live at Madison Square Garden
B.B. King - Live in Cook County Jail
Joni Mitchell -- Miles of Aisles
The Velvet Underground - 1969: Velvet Underground Live With Lou Reed
Neil Young - Time Fades Away
Frank Sinatra - Sinatra at the Sands
Aretha Franklin - Live at Fillmore West
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Live!
Iggy and the Stooges - Metallic K.O.
Frank Zappa and the Mothers - Roxy & Elsewhere
The Ramones - It's Alive
Bill Withers - Live at Carnegie Hall
Led Zeppelin - How the West Was Won
The Band - Rock of Ages
Grateful Dead - Europe '72
Jerry Lee Lewis - Live at the Star Club, Hamburg
Sam Cooke - Live At the Harlem Square Club, 1963
Muddy Waters - At Newport 1960
Bob Dylan - The Bootleg Series, Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live 1966: The "Royal Albert Hall Concert"
MC5 - Kick Out the Jams
Grateful Dead - Live/Dead
James Brown - Live at the Apollo

I'm going to make a poll for qualifying a top 64 and seeding by those totals.

Alphabetized by band/artist name and you can choose 18 of the 120 in the qualifying plus one write in Option.

Monday - round of 64
Tuesday - round of 32
Wednesday - round of 16
Thursday - quarterfinals
Friday - semfinals
Sat-Sun - final

Layla. Yeah he's covering his own song but it's just him and acoustic.

Figured that's what you were talking about, but wouldn't call it a cover since it's his song. I know people that only knew this version and had no idea the original version existed.

Salival by Tool is tops for me. No Quarter cover, You Lied cover, and alternate Push-it...amazing.

Good call

No Quarter is undoubtedly the greatest cover song ever recorded - we've had that thread too.

But it isn't "live" and so Salival is not a (totally) live album. In fact "Message to Harry Manback II" and "LAMC" (and it's hidden track) are not live either. So 4 of the 8 songs are not live.

There was a live album (except it also included studio version of Sober) called Sober Tales from the Darkside but I think i is out of print.

Any of you young'uns ever heard of Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen? Maybe the only thing better than the album is the story about how that tour came to be. A young lad named Leon Russell was introduced to the world, as well.

Hard to pick one.

Metallica S&M (S&M2 ain't bad either)
Guns & Roses Live Era
Led Zeppelin How the West Was Won
Alter Bridge Live from the O2 Arena
Nickelback Live from Red Rocks

Also, the Creed live album I assembled 20 years ago from individual tracks recorded in San Antonio that I downloaded from Napster.
