Holy *#$*#$&... imagine if they actually manage to take this all the way to the goal line

They are already broke as *#&$*#, and this would " require shifting the entire $405 billion annually spent on healthcare in California onto the state budget."

AB 2200 - The bill has passed the CA Health Committee, now it is off to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Kalra's similar 2023 bill, AB 1690, did not leave the Assembly Rules Committee. State Sen Scott Wiener's 2023 bill SB 770, opposed by Kalra for not acting quickly enough, became law and requires the state to discuss with the federal government how it might establish a unified healthcare financing system that would allow federal Medicare and Medicaid funds to be used for California's universal healthcare system.

----

The California Assembly Health Committee voted to advance a bill that would establish a universal healthcare board that would ban most private healthcare and require shifting the entire $405 billion annually spent on healthcare in California onto the state budget. As the state faces a $73 billion budget deficit, it is unclear which taxes would have to be adopted to absorb hundreds of billions of dollars in new costs.

California has the opportunity to be a model for the nation on what a progressive alternative to our fragmented, profit-driven status quo can be," Assemblymember Ash Kalra, D-San Jose, said in a statement celebrating the AB 2200 advancing to the Appropriations Committee after a 9-4 vote.

The bill would enroll every state resident in CalCare, which would include gender-affirming care, home health care, assisted living facilities, dialysis, and acupuncture. While private insurance would be banned, limited private care would be available for care not covered under CalCare, but providers of non-covered services would have to negotiate prices with the government.

CalCare funding would not be able to be used for any projects that result in "reductions in registered nursing staffing" or "changes in emergency room or primary care services or availability."

CalCare would also have final say over profit margins for healthcare providers contracted by CalCare and would "evaluate the source of margin generation."

The last thing we need to want is the PROC tanking its own healthcare infrastructure, sending millions more of those communists out of state to places like Texas.

I don't mind the sane ones fleeing, as we are picking up more good than bad so far IMO. But something like this could change that and send us the cancer that are too stupid to realize their voting patterns are the problem.

They can't stop at this.

The idea that they sell you that it will be the current system but paid for completely by the government is BS

They will quickly move to "nationalize" the private/NFP systems in Cali so they can do what all UHC systems do: ration health care. They'll seize control of the hospitals so they can limit access to treatment and they'll force doctors and nurses to become state employees so they can slash their salaries and benefits (until most leave the system and they have to start importing doctors and nurses from
3rd world countries)

FIFY. The problem here is that we all know they won't learn. They will double down and keep going until everything is in ruins. Then they'll be scratching their heads wondering why it didn't work. And of course they'll try again with the classic "well that wasnt real socialism…we'll do it right THIS time."

Included in the bill is the creation of an Office of Health Equity. You know where that goes. If this passes the middle class and all White people need to get out of CA

There will be no budget. If so, increasing the budget when you exceed it will be automatic.

Guess that's how they plan to ration HC by ranking everyone according to their victimhood quotient (ie their demographics historic loyalty to the DNC) and and the lower your Loyalty Score…er we mean "Equity" score, the longer you have to wait for treatment all the way down to middle class straight white male Christian conservatives who will be denied treatment at all

F'ing wow. And lol at the thought of just doing a 1:1 transfer of this $405B and they are good.

1. They can't afford $100B much less $405B.
2. The real cost will be at least 3-4x. It always is with leftist schemes. See their current disastrous HSR plan.
3. Dictating profitability means good doctors will leave because they can. They will be left with third world doctors and DEI doctors.
5. Any procedure beyond basic preventative care will result in massive medical tourism out of California to any other state to get the procedure done.

Democrats continue to be the dumbest humans on the planet.

As much as I think private health insurance companies have their priorities completely backwards (emphasizing record profits while denying necessary care and creating unethical delays), the fact of the matter is that the payments from private health insurance are 4-6x what Medicare / Medicaid pay.

In my own hospital system, the difference between what it cost to care for Medicare / Medicaid vs the reimbursement was $630 million last year. There's a reason some private docs aren't accepting these patients; it's private insurance reimbursements that keep the lights on.

I remember being at a conference and the speaker stated that 1/5 of all hospitals run slightly in the red. Those that are in the black aren't banking huge profits. We as a health system have an overall goal of 3% in the positive.

Any plan that pays at Medicare / Medicaid rates for ALL patients means that a lot of hospitals will close, and those that remain open will have to cut any services that are expensive.

California, if they adopt that sort of plan with that rate of payment, would create a healthcare access crisis of epic proportions.

By the way, some of the most expensive things in healthcare are chemotherapy drugs and the last 6 months of care in a person's life. Infer from that what you will.

I wonder what this means. Is Cali wanting Medicare/Medicaid to pick up the majority of the $405B ? ? So the rest of the states would end up financing CaliCare ? ? ?

That is generally how Dems/Libs operate.

If they pass this bill the UHC will fail and fail miserably. The problem becomes when the Federal Government under the Democratic Party leadership bails them out at the expense of the fly by states.
