What were conservatives to do? Become worthless academics? It kind of goes against the grain of independent minded people.
This really is an idiotic statement.

The well-read mind is critical to a functioning republic and was founded by those with the same. Many of the founding fathers were directly tied to educational institutions.

Independence begins with thought.

republican elites will loudly denounce academia and then quietly pay consultants five figures to get their mediocre kids into the Ivy League

Do you mean exactly like those famous Hollywood Liberals did to get their children into college too? Are you so naive to think ******bag behavior is confined to only wealthy Republicans and not Democrats, or was just another drive-by troll to slander Republicans with irrelevant nonsense?
the difference is the hollywood libs aren't the ones hypocritically waging a culture war against academia

the people who lead the Republican Party and set the tone for the broader conservative movement want their rank and file base to distrust academia and universities and stop sending their children there. meanwhile they still go there and pay out the nose to send their kids there. what does that tell you?

And you'd rather side with the liberals than the conservatives who are both wanting to make things better and realizing that if they want their kids to get a greater chance to succeed because of how society treats degrees from these institutions, they have to actually pay to get them in.

Your side causes all of this.
what exactly is the conservative plan to "make things better" other than for its leaders to complain about marxist indoctrination at the elite universities they willingly attend and send their kids to?
Well, for starters, not letting idiots take over buildings and lawns and wreaking havoc on the students and professors of said schools, using proper force and not worrying about some DA or AG actually indicting and prosecuting the officers that are there to stop this mess. That's a start.

Secondly, they want these institutions to broadly allow and support Judeo-Christian ideals too, as well as allowing conservative speakers to debate on campuses without being in fear of assault, property damage, and murder.

What an ignorant take, probably driven by the terrible examples you've seen from the modern educational industrialized crapfest we have in the US today.

Teaching is something you can do. And you've had good teachers and bad teachers. You've also seen good engineers or whatever field your in, and bad engineers.

Parents teach. Mentors teach.

Your statement is just filled with dumb, but I understand why people think this way.
