My options are thin. I have no emerging markets, real estate or commodities.

I'm sharing mine but I'm not saying it's good. I'm curious what others are doing or what they suggest for those with some market insights

53% - Large Cap fund
20% - Mid & Small Cap fund
11% - Broad Market Bond Fund
10% - Global Ex US Equity Fund
6% - self managed

Mine is simple. Half in a 2060 TRF and the other half in a S&P 500 index fund.

Current mix is:

25% S&P Fund
15% Value Fund
35% Diversified Growth
10% Combo of International and Small Company
15% Target Date

I've been doing a lot better overall doing this rather than going straight Target Date. Going forward I have less into the International and Small Company and more into the Diversified Growth.

I am 27 & don't have a massive amount of capital built up just yet so being extremely aggressive is the play for me at this time (I think). Averaging almost 10% return over the 4 years the account has been open.

for me to get self managed with Raytheon it was an extra 1% fee

no way am I going to pay that.

so mine is:

International 5%
Bonds 10%
Large Cap 20%
Small Cap 10%
S&P 10%
Retirement Year 2030
Retirement Year Date Fund 2025

I never noticed if there was a 1% fee or anything but that's OK. I've done far worse damage with my stock picks than 1%

its been doing better than straight Target Date because you have mostly anything other than Target Date which is complete garbage

it's a shame so many uninformed just default to Target Dates for the ease thinking they have decent allocation setup not realizing they're way to heavy in international and bonds and will destroy return rate over a career

I had my whole Roth in one for too many years til realizing it wasn't doing jack**** then finally DCA'd completely into stock indexes during covid crash which have 3-4x'd the returns

Don't see a huge issue with your allocation. You're aggressive but probably should be at 54 unless you plan to retire at 55 or something like that.

How close are you to tracking where you expected to be?

I'm behind with around 350K in my 401K and another 55K or so combined in the taxable account and 529

But I'm putting in about 42K a year into my 401K, plus 20K or so into the taxable account and 10K into the 529. Wife has 160K in her 401K but she's 9 years younger and maxing out her 401K too

We'd like to retire early so we're pushing all we can into these accounts. The plan is to "retire' but get a simple job that brings in 36K or so a year till I'm 67, let the accounts grow then really retire around 67

Bump those IBIT numbers up. I'd go 100% if I had the option.

Me and my wife both have some in our 401K, self managed. In total IBIT is 2% of our combined total 401Ks.

I may add some, but 3 or 4% is probably my limit

The problem with simple jobs is they require you to work a lot of hours a week still…

Maybe be find rental property or something that can seriously cash flow for you when you retire. So you hardly have to work at all.

I'll have to work a full time job for insurance, for my wife in
particular. That's also part of the reason I'm doing a taxable account instead of a Roth IRA, in case it's money we need to get at in its entirety sooner than later.

I was looking at my international fund yesterday and noticed it performs really poorly. It was global Ex US. Basically flat for a decade

I changed to the international fund today so even though it's got US stocks I figured it's at least diversified from my S&P a little bit

She was SP500 before the company changed their offerings and has only been in the new fund for a year.

They have tracked really similarly over a short time frame.

If you look at a 5 year, I think that the SP500 beat it by 4% total.

I use the targeted funds as my "bond" investments since the bond choices in my 401k is a pile of turds.

Large Cap Growth = 20%
SP500 = 20%
MidCap = 15%
Value = 15%
Targeted funds = 30% split between 2 of them.
