Do Y'all Think It's Time to Bring Tarleton To the Rivalries Board?

I mean really. Plays TCU, New Mexico State (who they stomped), Texas Tech. Is scheduled for Baylor and A&M in future games. Plus, the most colorful history:
1.) Tarleton is the only institution in the A&M system which cannot change its name (condition of the founding donor's will).
2.) another institution is named for him in Knoxville, TN which is a juvenile care facility: same "no name change" policy applies. There is also a park there in his name.
3.) he was either born in New Hampshire or Vermont in 1808-1811 or thereabouts. Little is known about his youth at all.
4.) he left for Tennessee and worked at a mercantile store there for 40 years, coming in possession of land warrants from 1812 war veterans.
5.) in 1860-61 he sold thousands of acres from the warrants (or bounties) in Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa and Kansas.
6.) he purchased 10,000 acres in west Texas (Palo Pinto and Erath counties) at 12.5 cents/acre.
7.) he established a mercantile store in Waco where he married a widow. She almost took him to the bank in divorce proceedings but he managed to defeat her in court.
8.) he moved to his holdings in Palo Pinto/Erath and lived there until being convinced to donate land to a startup college.
9.) there is an apocryphal account of him being followed everywhere by a pet duck (Oscar P). Unknown if true.
10.) we actually don't know if John Tarleton was his real name or if he was a runaway youth or fugitive from New England.
11.) he was almost poisoned by a Waco employee but did not press charges.

Oh, and they're Division 1 now.

Tarleton was an interesting guy apparently. No Brigham Young mind you, not a racist polygamist, never presided over a massacre, or a cult, but still a character, that Tarleton. with a college named after him.

Never supported slavery of Africans like Brigham Young, either. He may be the only fictional character after which a Texas university was named.

Sounds like a typical candidate for bdf expansion? Another upgrade?

And Tarleton men's basketball is 16-4 going into the Western Athletic Conference tournament this year but ineligible for the NCAA tournament because they "transitioned" ( I hate that term now) from Division 2 to Division 1, along with Utah Tech (which also occupies a place of sand, although magnificent mountains surround it). Too bad because it would have been a good representative of the A&M system in the NCAA tourney.

Don't listen to Bohunk, Utexan. I appreciate both your research and your goofy attempts at humor. sometimes it takes lots of words.

First I ever heard of Tarleton was back in 1967 when a 6'-4" high school friend named Tyler Tull got a basketball scholarship to go there.
Ever since then I've been wondering who the school was named after but was too lazy to actually look it up.
Was pretty sure it wasn't named after this guy, but then, The Butcher did have money...
