Texas A&M:

Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
Georgia
LSU
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Texas
Vanderbilt
at Florida
at Kentucky
at LSU
at Ole Miss
at Mississippi State
at Missouri
at Oklahoma
at South Carolina
at Texas

Figured we'd be getting Texas and LSU twice, a little surprised OU is one of our double opponents next season. Getting Alabama and Arkansas at home without having to go to either one was probably about as good as we could have hoped for for next season.

I would've much rather we got Arkansas as our third home-and-home (a team we're actually rivals with) than OU. But I'm just glad we got t.u. and LSU. Pretty decent schedule overall.

That is a pretty elite home conference schedule!

We get basically all of the most difficult opponents at home, with the road slate being pretty manageable. Sets up nicely for us in my opinion.

Glad we don't play at Arky or Vandy, the latter only because of that horrendous court setup.

The Southeastern Conference has announced each school's conference opponents for the 2024-25 season.

Conference play tips off on Saturday, January 4, and runs through Saturday, March 8. Each SEC team plays the other 15 teams at least once during league play. Three teams will be played a second time during the schedule two which are permanent opponents and one that will change each year.

We only have two permanent rivals (LSU and tu). OU is our rotating mirror opponent, so we will not play them twice every season.

Here are the 3 mirror opponents for each SEC team next season.
Alabama - Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State
Arkansas - LSU, Missouri, Texas
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss
Florida - Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee

Texas gets Bama, Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee all at home. Wow…

I go back and forth on if you want the good opponents at home or on the road.

Obviously it's nice for crowds and helping your chances to win the games, but that also means you have a ton of tricky road games that could end up hurting you down the road as opposed to road games at good teams which really don't matter at all if you lose them.

I like this. Hope we don't get any of the big home games during Christmas break.

Asked this in another thread but I'll ask here too.

What record does the SEC regular season champ have at the end of the season?

I'm thinking 14-4 or maybe 13-5.

A good mix of the two; I see us selling out more than one game next year. That home slate is no joke.

We will a couple we shouldn't and lose a couple we shouldn't. No use in ever doing a season prediction thread anymore. Never know what team is gonna show up.

Looks like they did a very geography based schedule for the mirror opponents this time around. I wonder if they'll keep that format going forward or if this is just a one year one off.

It should just be a one off for the third mirror opponent. Here are my guesses at the two permanent opponents for each team (in bold).

Arkansas - LSU, Missouri, Texas
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss
Florida - Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee

Get the better teams at home because they are more winnable and more likely to be q1 games than lesser teams at home, whereas even mediocre opponents on the road can still wind up being q1 games and you are less likely to have q3 road games than q3 home games

Agreed. If we're going to play LSU and the 'sips home-and-home every year, it would be great if that 3rd mirrored opponent could be something non-traditional or non-geographic.

Yeah, I think you want

- most of the really good teams at home, but with maybe an opportunity or two to get one on the road because a big time road win is absolute gold in the metrics.
- As many of the mediocre teams on the road as you can get, because like you said, those can sometimes be Q1 wins even if they aren't all that good, and losses don't hurt you much
- The really bad teams at home so you're more likely to win them.

Yeah, good point on needing a couple of really good true road games

Correct on all counts, those are the only possible pairings by process-of-elimination. The permanent opponents end up grouping the teams into 4 unequal "pods:"

1. TXAM, t.u., LSU, OK, ARK, MIZZ
2. MSST, MISS, BAMA, AUB
3. VAND, UK, TENN
4. UGA, SCAR, UF

Remember back when (oh say, 5 years ago), the SEC was close to laughing stock in basketball?

It's weird how it kind of happens in cycles. In 2016 when we tied with Kentucky to win the conference it absolutely suuuuuucked. Only three teams made the NCAA Tournament, that's incredibly bad. Was pretty bad in 2020 also but avoided some criticism because the Tournament selection never happened.

We should get off to a hot start with 9 consecutive home games, but it will be tough closing the season with 9 games on the road.

I don't think there's been much of a "cycle" on the subject of basketball in the south or southwest ever. Basketball has been all east and west coast with the exception of a chosen few. The focus of athletics and the production of athletes will see that the south/southwest dominance of anything un-ice/show related is going to certainly be a new beginning of a very long term cycle. Like forever.
