Ah, yes, the armpit of the old SWC. It sucked back then and still sucks today.
Rice has always been on the outside looking in, even during the SWC days. I guess they always thought they were better than everyone else, even t.u.

Not surprised about Rice considering it's makeup at this point:

https://admission.rice.edu/apply/class-profile

Looks like only 35% Texan and 27% Caucasian

40% of international students are from China.

Scores are still off the charts high, but they seem to be actively trying to eliminate white male Texans.

could have told you that. If you are a white male, you are a minority at Rice.

Somehow or the other in the 60s, being intelligent at Rice morphed into arrogance. More than likely by the liberals brought in to teach and students from other states and countries who thought they were above Texans. No longer does the valedictorian at Jessie's Creek get a chance to advance and do some good for Texas and Houston via Med school or engineering (those kids go to A&M or tu now). Rice has lost Houston as a result. Add to the mix was they started the DEI thing years ago and created worthless degrees. A worthless degree plus arrogance is a bad mix.
For a guy who attended Rice on a football scholarship in the 60s/70s and then bailed you certainly have a lot of strong opinions about the normal students at Rice.

I attended in the 90s, and was born and raised in Austin.

35% of the school is Texan.
So what? It's a private school.

At Stanford 37% of the kids are from California.

https://facts.stanford.edu/academics/undergraduate-profile/

At Vandy less than 10% of the kids are from Tennessee.

https://news.vanderbilt.edu/2019/10/28/vanderbilt-welcomes-most-selective-diverse-first-year-class/

Less than 5% of the student body at Notre Dame is from Indiana.

https://news.nd.edu/news/class-of-2022-intellectually-and-globally-diverse-dedicated-to-service-and-leadership/

I dare say 35% is likely on the high end for these types of schools.

UT-D students are having a pro-Gaza protest on campus in 27 minutes. I didn't see anything in the material about it that said it was "pro-Hamas" like the usual red-meat MAGA guys here describe things.
Actually - several groups are now supporting Hamas. Face it, your team supports terrorists and by affiliation, so do you. Now, if you don't, let's see you condemn such protests. I doubt you will though. We all know liberals are weak and easily manipulated. You prove it daily.

"The President [of Brandeis University] said all students deserve to attend a university free of "Jew-hatred."

Well said President Liebowitz! It's a shame that so many of the Ivy League Schools (and as per this thread about Rice University in our backyard) are not free of Jew-hatred.

Just to clarify, the thumbs up Emoticon is for President Liebowitz.

Boston-area private university extends transfer deadline as pro-Palestine protests continue elsewhere
By Annabella Rosciglione April 24, 2024 12:24 pm

Brandeis University, a private university in Waltham, Massachusetts, extended its transfer application deadline until the end of May in the wake of Pro-Palestinan protests on other college campuses.

The university's president, Ron Liebowitz, issued a statement Tuesday that the school would be extending their transfer application deadline until May 31 to give students who are uncomfortable with demonstrations on their campuses more time to submit an application.

"I am sure many of you have seen or read about the numerous protests on college and university campuses, where Jewish students are being targeted and attacked physically and verbally, preventing them from pursuing their studies and activities outside of class, just because they are Jewish or support Israel. For many, their safety has been compromised and this is unacceptable," The statement said.

"Due to the current climate on many campuses around the world, we are now expanding the opportunity for students to seek the learning environment of our campus by extending the transfer application deadline to May 31, with notification by July 1," The statement said.

The previous deadline for transfer students to apply for the fall semester was March 31. The President said all students deserve to attend a university free of "Jew-hatred."....

The 90s would have been a great time to be at Rice, or really lots of Universities- tail end of Reagan and Bush years, kids were focused on making money, doubt if Profs wanted athletics banned etc.. 70s were rough on conservative kids and causes. Craziness and silliness just like now.

I'm voting for DeSantis in the primary, but will happily vote for Trump in the general election if he wins the primary.

There's going to be a MAGA rally in my neighborhood but I can't find anything about it being pro-Trump.

It was a great time there and very cordial response.

I get my dander up sometimes about the alma mater. These protests suck too.
