This is odd...why would one step down from as OC to become a position coach?

Did he leave Alabama? (or get fired?)

The word on Austin radio was that his wife is from San Antonio and didn't like Tuscaloosa.

because he didn't like working for Saban or the cheating that was going on at Alabama......the same reasons he interviewed with Sherman for the qb coaching position here, guess tu was worth taking being his alma mater

There are a lot of rumors going about but the one thing you can be sure of was that he did not get fired. The most credible source (our version of Aggiegrant) I've seen so far has indicated that Saban was going to shake up the staff and possible take the OC title away from Major. Other rumors were about his wife not being happy. We'll probably never really know what happened in this situation.

The OC from Louisville is being mentioned as a possible replacement but word is he's the #2 candidate.

And what cheating would that be?

This pretty much shows everyone how ****ty it is to work for Saban and Alabama.

maybe this will work out as well for the longhorns as the last time a Texas school stole an Alabama coach.

Got to love the Aggie Spin on this. A month ago Texags.com was drooling over Major to come coach at ATM.

Yep, one year at Syracuse, then one at Rice and one at Bama really shows how bad it is to work for Saban.

Saban is demanding and relentess. He works long hours and requires his assistants to do so. It's so bad working for him that many of his former assistants (Fisher and Muschamp to name two) credit him with making them better coaches.

While I don't think he was going to get fired there is a rumor which is picking up steam that he was going to lose his OC title. Not that it really mattered since he was sharing those duties with Joe Pendry anyway.

Rucker obviously got moved over after Mack found out his red-headed step child and whipping boy Major wanted back in Austin...shows his loyalty to his assistants.

If I am top rated RB, being recruited by the top teams in the country, I'd much rather have a guy who played RB in college and 9 years in NFL, and has coached several good RB's 4 years over a guy has never played a down at RB nor coached it a day in his life.

Either tu's oc gets the boot after next season and Major gets a promotion or Major will go some where else that is okay place to live for his wife...

Anyone have a beeline to Phyllis (in Mogul?)? I bet she knows the whole story about Major.

Some of you know who Phyllis is. If you could "resurrect" anything about her on this thread, I'm sure it will be hilarious.

"Texags" was not exactly unanimous in its excitement for Major.

Secondly, the people who were excited were not drooling over the prospect of Major coming here and coaching RBs.

Seriously, you can't get to the NFL as a RB from the 40 acres. It just doesn't happen.

Why would Applewhite coach running backs?
Why would Gary Kubiak coach running backs on R.C. Slocum's staff? I felt like Gary got the shaft here back when he was an assistant. Though he did do one hell of a job here with our running backs, he was easily hired away by the 49'ers the very next year to coach quarterbacks (Steve Young). Steve immediately had the best season of his career the very year Gary Kubiak was there with him. I would imagined Corey Pullig could have benefited from Gary having been the quarterbacks coach instead of the running backs coach here at A&M...but oh, no...

My question is, why in God's name would you go to work for the same guy that screwed you over so bad it was ridiculous? Everybody knew MA was a better QB than the Golden Boy but Mr. PR kept throwing little Crissy-Poo out there, basically for no other reason than for the pub the program was getting out of having Phil's boy out there. Lord knows it wasn't results-driven. Sips, y'all know this is true too, don't even deny it.... Anyway, to me this is either (1) utter loyalty to t.u. on the part of Major or (2) the biggest dose of swallow-your-pride I've ever seen. Actually I think it's a bit of both.

Whatever, welcome back to the 40 Acres, Major. Maybe your second tour of duty works out a little better for ya......

Or it could be that it didn't happen the way that you badly wish it had. Do you really think that Mack or Major would want to get together again if it had happened that way you paint it? Not results driven? Might want to go check your history. Did it ever occur to you that there might be more to it than you realize?

Chrissy-Poo? Are you 10 years old?

Who cares? Does anyone really feel intimidated by any coaching staff in the country at this point? I feel so strongly about our coaches and our Ags that every other team is unconcerning. The land thieves, the tea sips, the tceh tortillas, even the trojan condoms out in southern cal are just not scary to me at this point. I know we have a lot of work to do during the off season (and I'm not saying we're going to go undefeated either...just that I'm not worried), but really, are you concerned that the broken-horns have signed a former QB (that they decided to bench) as their running backs coach....are you serious???

Gig'em Ags! Here's to our rise in the South.

There's only one thing better than the alleviation of world poverty, the liberation of all women, the brotherhood amongst differing religions and ethnicities, and the economic self-sufficiency of every nation, and that, is Aggie football.

I bet it has more to do with Alabama being Alabama. It seems that its a hard place to live when things are going 110%. I could certainly understand why his wife wouldn't like living there. Those bama fans are like arkie fans, they will turn on you in a heart beat.

Now watch them hire Chris Simms and let them battle it out for the OC job once Greg Davis is gone.

I couldn't agree more. I believe that coach was Gene Chizik and we won the National Championship. Thanks for your good wishes!
