I got $20.00 to contribute. Actually I could probably do $100.00 to get the lights on, but I am not a deep pockets donor.
And to Mr. Byrne, there is this stuff called "conduit" that one puts exposed wiring in protect the wiring. If the correct gauge wire, or a gauge or two larger is used, then heat is not a problem.
I do agree that some sort of barrier to birds and other varmints would also be required. Ventilation to keep the lights cool may also be required. But as others have said, we are a university. We do have an college of engineering and I'll bet that there are some bird experts somewhere in the university. And apparently we need some bat experts too.
