It seems that Paypal is making some good money off this with fees. I don't know of any way around that, but it would be cool if they weren't sucking in so much.

seems the avg fee is about 3.5% - on $150,000 that's $5,250, a healthy piece of change not going to the project.

$Bill is setting this up to fail. His “estimate” of $150,000 is absurd. Someone at Ags For Kyle should call a few sign companies for REAL estimates, it’s probably 1/3 of what Bill is making them raise. Also, LEDs are 3x more expensive and will be LESS efficient than the original cc fluorescent lights that lit the letters in 1981.

Here's how it works:
Plan A: They fail to raise the whole $150k; $B takes the donation and dumps it into some sport no one cares about.

Plan B: They raise the whole $150k; $B spends $50k to fix the sign and dumps $100k into some sport no one cares about.

Looks like a winner either way for our kickass shot put program

I actually support your initiative and believe that it is a good cause. I don’t believe $B has done you or the cause any favors by throwing out a ridiculous target and an ultimatum: “raise this much and only then we will look at it” If you and your donors can truly control where the money raised actually goes then my hats off to you. The athletic department and 12th man foundation under $B have been extremely averse to accepting earmarked funds. They like to spend where they see fit. I apologize if this came across as attacking your organization—certainly not my intent.

CCF = Cold Cathode Fluorescent, the technology used in 1981 to light the sign and still used extensively in signage because it is less expensive and more energy efficient than LED.

Ol army2002 the $150K estimate is not out of line for a project of this size. I work in the construction industry and work with these types of vendors and scopes of work.
